since its the topic of brake conversions i have a question.... i have a 91 grand prix se and it has dual piston calipers which it obviously doesnt need with the 3.1. and i have such small brakes on my 00 grand am i was wondering if the brakes from my grand prix would bolt up to the grand am. i already know theres a clearance issue with the wheel cuz i put the rims from the grand am on the grand prix and it wouldnt fit it was hitting on the caliper... so i plan on putting the stock grand prix rims on it instead. theyre the old school aluminium pontiac 5 spoke rims. currently i have buick lucerne rims on it....... not really what i would like to have on the car....

unless you do not plan on driving the gran prix I would not do that, it is not just the motor size that determines how much brake force is needed, weight, also is a consideration.

ya well the stocks on the grand am should be enough shouldnt it? i just want a little more stopping power on the grand am. both cars weight about the same. theyre both 2 door coupes with v6's and auto trans'.

i looked it up the grand am weighs 3066 lbs and the grand prix weighs 3188 lbs so not a huge difference but also not a small one either. the grand am does have more power than the grand prix so it should be able to hold up to the braking forces required.

edit... thats off of kbb thats not what the cars actually weigh thats the estimate i doubt they actually go weigh a set number of each car to find out a good number....

Just curious, why did you have to take over my thread for this?

There's a button that says "New Thread" for this.

i didnt intend to make it a big deal i was more just asking a would it work or not cuz its a similar topic and didnt wanna make a whole new thing for what i thought was a simple yes or no question.

edit all i really wanted to know was if it would bolt up or not.

Then make a new thread instead if searching doesn't find you anything.

It's a lot more useful than going off topic in somebody else's thread.

It's not that hard, dunno why you're being lazy.

Fail.

This is for an F-body conversion, not Grand Prix.

-ahem-
Back to the subject at hand, and I'll ignore the noob's posts.
I can run the F-body dual pistons just fine off of the stock master cylinder, correct? I am a bit worried about the extra stress it will undertake.
