Yep, it's an awesome motor! The red corvair with the LS1 in the back (right before the pics of the black bmw z3)... I've seen that car in person! The first pic with the lake in the background is at a car show at the GM tech center in Warren, MI. I showed my car at that show.

I hate the fact that even though they have LSx motors in there, they still have those ghey looking fart cannons out back.

But holy fock. I'll take a first gen widebody Miata with LS2 plz.

Sacrilege! I call sacrilege on any LSx swap in place of a perfectly good rotary engine. Its all well and good that people can do it, but I still can't stand it. I'm just not a fan of turning a really nicely setup car designed for driving in the twisties and turning it into a drag strip car. I'm sure a LSx swapped Miata/Mx-5 will do crazy fast numbers in the quarter but I'd be curious to see how different the circuit course times would be.

Pretty sure the LSX is lighter or about the same weight as the 13bt

That's if you can get the damn rotary started to get down the road...

My short stint at Mazda proved how terrible those motors are. 2004 RX8 with 75k on its third motor.

In other news: M3 + LS1 = a very happy place.

Yeah, an LSx swap into an RX7 only adds like 50lbs to the car. NOT a big difference, and nothing you can't negate with some other light weight parts. And you end up with an engine that is reliable, doesn't overheat, and actually has some torque. Perfect thing for making a light weight track car rocket out of the corners without waiting for a turbo to spool up!

That LS swapped colorado is awesome! I'd totally rock that as a daily driver. I wonder what they had to do to make that work?

I knew I'd get some flack for my opinions, but that's just how I feel. The 13b in the Rx-7 is quite the engine and plenty of people have gotten loads of HP out of them. As for the new rotary in the Rx-8, yes a lot of early model years had problems but engine replacements are rare in later years.

I'm not saying the LSx option is worse off than the rotary or any other engine, I just personally don't care for it. So I say I don't care how they do it here. I'd rather invest the money to make a 600hp rotary powered Rx-8 than drop in an LSx. More fun that way.

Didn't they come with a 5.3 V8 available? Might not have been that bad to swap in the LSX

I think 08-09 models had that option IIRC.

Rotarys are resource hogs.
