Let me guess your subscriptions are

Honda Tuning, Modified, Import Tuner, Super Street, Motor Trend & GM High Tech Performance. That use of "like" in your post made me think you were unsure if it was 4 or 5 or even 6 so i just stuck in the token domestic mag.

ah, no. I'm just not sure which ones are current. There are a couple like super street which are really sucking lately and I'm letting the subscriptions run out on, so I don't know how many issues I have left. I used to get import tuner, but got tired of their constant domestic bashing, and their articles weren't that good. Same with super street, their written content is nothing but childish gibberish now.

Had subscriptions to turbo&high tech and sport compact car for years before they folded (and they had several great articles on rotary engine btw). Got car craft for a few years. Still have car&driver, autoweek, modified, performance auto&sound, and D sport mag. Have never and will never get honda tuning. Bought a few issues of GM high tech and of pontiac performance off the news stand, but thats it.

It's nice seeing two cars chassis built very differently. One car practically full interior purpose for a specific series, the other a gutted $hitbox, which most likely doesn't even come close to meeting class requirements. Due to the fact of there being a Ford involved, I'll take the Mazda.

While it was nice to see the rotary win it doesn't mean squat for the overall "battle". In this case the rotary was favored due to the track having a lot of turns and not many straightaways. Had the track had a lot of straightaways the greater horsepower of the V8 very well could have meant a defeat. Each engine has their advantages and disadvantages. Also as I had said earlier DRIVER > *

Yea but how many cars do you see running 8 seconds with full interiors? Really though who gives a crap? Time is time, less weight equals faster time. If these were the only people in the entire racing field running stripped down super light setups you'd have an argument.

I would be curious to see if either vehicle would qualify for a specific class or not and whether they'd be in the same one but lets face facts. That race was setup for entertainment purposes only and favored the rotary. Wondering about classes really doesn't help anything.

There's a Supra that comes to mind actually. When NHRA Sport Compact was around, and they initiated weight minimums for classes, even the Pro classes, you tend to see a disappearance of competitive rotary cars. It made me giggle.

Then why post it in the first place? You posted it in this thread, then go with the crutch of entertainment.

lone wolf you can only win if you have a higher number of import magazine subscriptions!!

i 'd.

i want to do 5.3 swap in my truck. i hear a decent motor can be had from a junk yard these days. will need pcm and harness. should improve gas mileage as i currently know it in the 86 c-10 as well. but i don't know anywhere near enough to be doing this myself unfortunately. luckily i have been able to find many build threads of folks who have done this exact swap. i so wanna do this.

MORE import mags? Geez how many do I have to have??? Oh! Maybe I can get the ones straight from Japan! JDM Yo!

Nah seriously there is no answer because its like saying a granny smith apple is always better than a red delicious. Unless Mazda pulls a really badass rotary that just blows away every previous generation rotary engine out there and its direct competitor's engines, it is and will continue to be a niche engine and market. Something for quirky people who like to tinker and enjoy a challenge rather than someone who wants to go another route.

If you're seriously gonna do a swap, good luck to ya. I'd be interested in seeing the progress and eventual end results.
