mobil 1 is the best oil you can buy. the government gave mobil 1 a multi billion dollar contract to develop synthetic oils for jet engines in fighter planes and turbine engines for military helicopters. the same technology used for these oils was applied to all of their synthetic products for consumers as well. no other oil company has 1/5th of the amount of research put into their oils. i use mobil 1 lubricants in EVERYTHING i can including my 99 corvette.

Ha, have anything to back that claim? I don't believe it, Mobil 1 synthetics aren't even a true synthetic anymore.

Amsoil > Mobil 1.

Even Castrol Edge is superior.

BITOG.com has done numerous tests, and Amsoil usually comes out on top.

Yeah, I will be interested to see that claim being backed up. I would believe that nobody else has 1/5 the amount of loyal synthetic followers of Mobil1.

I agree that we shouldn't trust yahoos on the internet however BITOG has a number of petroleum engineers who are some of the most helpful people when it comes to understanding the data acquired from oil testing and analysis. Sure people may have their own brand biases, but their empirical tests speak volumes. And even though I was a long time Mobil1 user, there has been the whole issue of them using lower quality base stocks now that their production volume has increased. That info much like your opinion that you can't back up is all hearsay until evidence can be shown...without hard evidence, we are all "yahoos on the internet".

Well, oils developed for Jets is different from oil for piston engines. They work differently and burn different fuels, so their oils are different viscosity and have different additives.

Mobil1 used to be one of the best... not quite so anymore. It's still pretty good, but not what it used to be. Better than using cheap non-synthetic, but I can't justify paying the same price for Mobil1 that I used to with the info out now that they are using lower quality base stocks and additives package than they used to, and still charging the same price as other premium oils. I switch to Castrol Syntech Edge myself.

i think we can all agree, for most applications; synthetic oils are the way to go.

Currently running Chevron Supreme 5w-30 w/SuperTech filter because dino oil seems to evaporate less in the k20a3.

Regularly use Amsoil or German Castrol with a Wix/NapaGold or Purolator PureOne filter. Been meaning to try Redline. Had bad experiences with Royal Purple.

Have you replaced your Lower Intake Manifold Gasket yet?

I had similar issues with my oil fill cap with my 2000 Grand Am GT1, when my LIM Gasket sprung a leak. I got lucky, and the spray had concentrated on the valve cover and the bottom of the oil fill cap. The engine wasn't milkshaked (coolant in the oil).

Need more information on your driving style, & whether you idle the car alot ?
How long has the oil been used in your car ?

The 1st thing I would do is:
Change the PCV Valve.
Take the car out for a run on the highway for 30 minutes out, & come back = about an hour of highway driving.

Check the oil cap & oil fill area.
& then afterwards consider other options if it didn't disapear.

driving style is mostly work and back. though whenever we go anywhere its my car that takes us. mostly city, but some highway every now and then.

yeah i use my remote starter alot durning the winter months. i'd say about 5 mins a day during winter.

the oil has been in the car for about 4 months when the pic was taken.

was only a mobil 1 fully synthentic user until 5 w30 was hard to find a while back for some reason. switched to castrol syntec 5 w30 and always change every 3k. no issues with oil but can tell its darker when changed than the mobil 1.

Typical synthetics last between 6-8K. You're wasting cash changing it that early. I do 9K with the Castrol Edge, and it's fine.

Use a quality oil filter as well, and avoid Fram like the plauge.

I use castrol edge. But, I only have fram filters.. Maybe I'll grab a K&N Gold filter?
