Its not much money tho, 30 bux for 5 plus quarts and a fram. whats the issue with the fram on 3k miles? The reason i use it is b/c it's what comes under the 30 dollar deal and its what ive always used. who can hate on the "sure grip"

Well, it's still a crappy filter. If you use a better filter and use a quality synthetic oil, you can go 5-7k miles between changes. Even if you spend $35-40 on an oil change, it's cheaper than spending $30 each time two oil changes in the same time period. In this economy you gotta save money any way you can and there's no point wasting oil when it doesn't need to be changed.

The synthetic can take the abuse. 7K regardless is still a good interval to go by.

Jesus! And I buy FRAM cause I thought they were good, too O.o

Guess it's time to switch. I run non-synth oil, as at 150k+ miles of regular oil I've been told it's not worth it. I don't buy crap oil, though, usually Valvoline or something like that.

But you'll still get the long intervals, which is worth it.

True, but I was told on here that with the age and mileage of my car I shouldn't have it go that long without an oil change.

If there is nothing mechanically wrong with the engine, there is no reason you can't run longer intervals with good oil. I run castrol GTX high mileage in my grand prix which is 13 years old and has over 160k miles on the engine. That isn't even a full synthetic but a synthetic blend, and I had the oil lab tested after 5k miles and they told me I could run it another 2k miles before needing to be changed.

It's all about the condition of the engine. If you don't have anything wearing out and putting extra metal into the system, if you have a good air filter keeping the dirt particles out, if you use a good oil filter, and if you don't have any leaking gaskets or anything, then you can run long intervals.

Exactly!

I run Castrol Edge in my GA, and I'm at 117K now, and I'm on my third batch of Edge. The two previous oil changes lasted 9K without an issue. I think the 99 GT coupe can take it.

Hm I suppose I should look into that, then. I run full synth in the 03 Durango we go cause it only had 52k on it (and after browsing a Dodge forum you apparently should run synth in the 4.7 on those) but never thought to on the GA cause of the miles.

As far as I know there's nothing horribly wrong mechanical-wise with my engine internals. I know the AC compressor might be going, since it sounds like there is a 'shhh shhh shhh' noise coming from it, like metal rubbing metal, but that shouldn't be a problem as far as the oil goes, right?

Good filters to go with:
AC Delco
Wix
Bosch
K&N
Mobil 1

above dont forget napa gold.

ok a bit of a update. i just changed my oil from edge back to rp. reason being was cause that pic i posted really scared the hell out of me. my engine has over 100k miles on it and if it were to die on me right now, i'd be f*cked for longer then i like to imagine. so i played it safe. i also did a engine flush to get whatever the hell else could have been in there out. which is probably a good idea anyway cause i've never done that. and like it said i'm over 100k miles.

i know some of u are going to say i wasted my money, and thats fine. its my money to waste. but if something could have gone wrong and i gummed up my engine from the inside out, like i said i would have been screwed.

thanks for all the help though. and heres to anther 100k miles.
