Temp sensor going bad?

Wondering if my temp sensor is going bad -

I just went out to the car, it has not been driven since this morning, but the temp on the gauge reads just over cool, or start position. Prob about 3-4 clicks, marks what ever you want to call them.

Thought that maybe the thermostat was bad, it was running a little over 215 sometimes so replaced it, Water pump was replaced prob 3yrs ago. Not losing coolant, and bled the system after the changing the thermostat, and put a 180 stat in when it was replaced.

I just installed a carbon fiber hood, could that be causing the engine temp to never cool all the way off. I checked the temp with a lazer light and the housing is at 130 degrees. Also the fans are currently off.

Thanks in advance.

There really is no benefit to having a 180 degree thermostat with the LA1, unless you're heavily modded. Are there any SES codes present? If that sensor was going bad, it would have thrown a code. And unless the CF hood is the SC/T ram air hood with the slots opened up, I doubt it caused the housing to be cold like that.

Well it not heavly modded - but 20degress on the LIM is better then none
Nope no codes - CF hood is std no scoops or holes.

The stock temp is 195. I'm running that with my minor mods and I have no issues.

But if you're not coming up to proper temp, have a compression test done on the coolant system. Might be a clog somewhere. You get heat though the vents?

Nope I am fine coming to temp - I want to know why it has a head start before the car is running.
Yep everything else is fine with it heat, vents, no leaks, no lights, I will check the radiator with the lazer tester after I head home.

I dunno then. But hey, if everything checks out, and it does what it's supposed to do, I'd leave it be. Messing with it might make things worse.

Well I will have to see what it does on a cool day when its under 80 - should be this weekend, see if it still doing it. If not then its the CF hood doing it.

She is getting a bath tonight - The GF lives on a dirt rd.

And the shop that installed the kit did not put mesh in the front - so I have just been holding off on it since it needs to come off to put it in right.

I like the spoiler - but it is heavier then the stock, so the trunk now slams if someone else uses it. But its just for looks for the most part.

Can't be any heavier than the SC/T, that added a bit of weight to my trunk. When I pop it now, it stays cracked open, with the old spoiler, it would open all the way.

Ok So this has to do with the carbon fiber hood - on hot days the coolant is staying warm and not cooling off all the way.. Strange.. But what ever!

How's your MPG?
Had a problem with my thermostat sticking, temp gauge would only go up to around 1/3 (about halfway between 1/4 and halfway on the gauge). I saw as low as 16mpg, usually got 19-20.
