Example:

Nokia N97-3

Get it on Bell Mobility for $99 Cdn on a 3-year contract (or $599 no contract).
SIM locked to Bell (Bell will unlock it for $75 I heard).

Buy it unbranded & unlocked imported from Nokia USA = $579 Cdn
They sell for used $350+.
