ive called them both but usually when i think of engine hoists i think of the fixed ones mounted in ceilings of shops and cherry pickers as the rolling ones

I cant say Ive ever used a torque wrench the two times I dropped my pan. I just tightened them up and then 1/8-1/16 turn past tight.

AKA Good'ntight.

Ive had no drips or leaks going on a year after my last pan change.

I have a leak as well, and it seems to be coming from behind the crank pulley too. I really dont want to do a complete replacement right now, but I want to do a quick fix for now. My idea was to just clean the area very well, inspect it for missing bolts or damage, then just try to add some gasket maker/sealer to seal off the area that its leaking.

Any other better quick fix ideas?

Here are some crappy pics I took:

i just unbolted my oilpan, and worked it out... nothing needs to be takin apart, with a little bit of patience... easier getting it back in imo. bolting it back in... takes awhile.

that doesnt look like a oil pan at all to me. looks to be 100% rear main. or is that front? these damn FWD motors always get me effed up.

No, that's definitely an oil pan leak. If it was the front crank seal, the oil wouldn't be on the front of the pan to gasket area. Wind blows the fluids back while gravity carries them down. So the oil would be concentrated on the side of the pan and in the area of the crank pulley only.

Also, its important to tighten the oil pan bolts to spec because the pan is structural to the engine. It serves as a main girdle as well as mount for the a/c compressor.
