5 speed manual transaxle

im looking for a 5 speed manual transaxle. ive looked in junkyards and they tell me they have 5 speeds that are on the 3100 engine. now if that transaxle would fit with a 3400 i might go for that but not sure if it will

pretty sure the bolt patterns are the same on both the engine blocks.

this might help you visualize it some, but this was a 6-speed. still a lot of custom mounts either way. HOW TO: Intstall a 6 speed in a GA GT

and there are others out there that have done a 5-speed.
if i was gonna go through with it, i'd do the 6speed. looks factory. can't tell it didn't come that way.
the 5speed install i've seen had the "stick" sticking out way too far to be comfortable. it looked tacky, to me anyways.
good luck though, and keep us informed on the build.

Get a Getrag F23 out of a cavalier with the 2.2L OHV engine.
They share the same bell housing as a 60V6 and can take quite a bit of power.

just trying to keep the other thread clean.

you can find the "f-40 ?" (i think that's the name of it) 6speed manual in a pontiac g6 gxp. or just search carparts.com
i've searched for them before and had no probs locating them. several things that you will definitely need to get from gmpartsdirect.com though.

The f40 was the FWD 6speed tranny, the f23 is also an easier swap due to axles being correct to swap right in. The getrag 282, which I am swapping in, has to have axles made for it, but after research it isn't that big of a deal and can be done in your garage like I did. The 282 has a nice array of aftermarket parts that can deal with a good amount of HP.

don't never go to a dealership for the big things, ($$$) that's why.
only source the smaller bits from them. save money and get the big parts used!

and Kyle, have pics of the stick installed in your center console? how does it look, how much does it stick out?

I don't have a pic of it with the interior pieces back in place, but it is a standard alero/grand am B&M short throw shifter. I used the 5 speed cables and bracket from an alero, so it would be no different than a normal 5 speed alero or grand am..

i think the 5speed that i saw had the shifter "stick" from a cavalier/sunfire. all i know is that the thing stuck out way too far, looked totally tacky, after market, ricey

when you do get it pieced together, please put up some pics.

thanks.
