so in conclusion, what would be the best choice to do a 5 speed swap for a 3400? the getrag? and by best choice im talking performance wise along with ease of installation

anyways, i think the 5 speed would beat the 6 speed for performance and easier to install.
the 4cyl grand ams had the 5 speed, so the shifter and cables should be available and should fit without needing to be modified (like the way the g6 shifter and cables had to be sorta jerry-rigged by timka). i think the g6 shifter cables came up a bit short, and almost had to be stretched

i wish you luck on this. like i said above, i wantz 1 too

As I recall, the gear ratios in the F40 6-speed aren't exactly the best for the powerband of the 3400.....
