why would you want one that has already been modded and beat to hell? plus its automatic... :/
granted, stock examples of those cars are quite a bit, but why would you want a modded example that has seen better days?

x2 Its pretty hard to row gears in a car that has a tooooon of power. If it is just a street car, it would be way more fun though.

For the love of all that is holy, don't do that to yourself. You have no idea what you'd get yourself into. My wife has an 04 9-3 2.0T and I can't wait to get her away from it. We've had so many problems with it. The drivetrain has been ok, but EVERYTHING goes wrong with the electrical systems, suspension, and little peripheral parts and it's VERY expensive to maintain. The 2.8T's are extremely fast cars that are very agile, but they break down just as often. Saab had its hey day from the mid-80's to the late 90's. They made some fantastic vehicles like my wife's original '87 900 CSE turbo (that had 365,000 miles on the clock when she sold it). When GM got ahold of them, everything was made on the cheap and things started to go wrong. I've been on the saabcentral.com forums for a few years now. Go on there, start reading around a little bit on the 9-3SS section and be prepared to be frightened away from it...

I think a lot of older cars were "more reliable" than the newer variants. Remeber old Volvos? Those things would run forever...and the old small Toyota pickups were bulletproof. I used to know a number of kids in highschool that had old handed down BMW 5 series/wagons that had hundreds of thousands of miles on them that ran like new..the new E60 5 series' probably wont see those figures as often if the keep up with all the odd bugs and problems. Old Mercedes diesels..can't stop em.
Cars nowadays are much better than the older variants...they are much safer, are more quiet and more comfortable and way more technologically advanced. But they aren't as simple as their old counterparts and that I think can make them more prone to small failures. BTW though, when we look at data from failures per thousand, cars do seem to become more reliable each year. Take that for what it is I guess. CHRIS

Oh I totally agree with you that cars have gotten more reliable over the years. Moreso, the technology has advanced as far as maintenance, fluids, etc. 20-30 years ago, cars weren't more than an engine, a tranny, four wheels, a steering wheel, a radio, and A/C if you were lucky. They were exceptionally simpler. We never had a problem with the Saab's engine or tranny. They were great. It was everything else that was CONNECTED to that engine and its peripheral systems that went bad. Like you said, old BMW's, Volvo's and Mercedes were absolute work horses. They were very well designed and, compared to today, fairly simple cars. Now, they are so unbelievably complicated, that the average weekend mechanic has some real trouble keeping up with them. For instance, on the Saab, I had to buy a specialized 32mm socket just to get the drop-in style oil filter cap off. Also, I now have a full set of Torx bits from working on that car. Anyways, we are now an all-Honda family. I know that's like fingernails on a chalkboard to a lot of you guys on here. Five or six years ago, I probably would have gotten into a fist fight with someone had they told me I'd be not only driving a Honda, but also buying one for my wife. Honda is one of the most North American-made car companies out there. My Ridgeline was built in Canada (now primarily in Alabama) and 90% of my wife's Accord's parts were made in the US with final assembly here, too. I always thought I'd be driving a new Acura TL, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Tundra Limited, or something like that by now, but it's amazing how one's pipe dreams sink into reality in just a few short years. As I've gotten older and more adapted to reliability and practicality, Honda products are just simply the best choice for us at this point.

Wow, man... I switched over to a Honda product myself, but it seems you're being a bit hasty in defending yourself when no one has flamed you for it. The RSX is a great vehicle. It's very quick, light, and economical to boot. If anyone gets down on you for that, then they seem unintelligent. However, because you have decided to poke fun at Grand Am owners on a Grand Am site for no apparent reason, then you deserve to be chastised.
