Question How to mount Basslink??

Well, I finally decided to splurge and buy myself a Basslink. I listen to one in my buddy's car for a few weeks and love it. Got it and a wire kit for 215 shipped to my door. Anyway, how has everybody mounted this thing? I mean, with supplied hardware or have you used some other method? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Brett

How to mount a Basslink

1. buy it dinner.
2. have a few drinks and some small talk.
3. when the mood feels right, invite the Basslink back to your place for a nitecap.
4. mount away...

Sorry, I couldn't help it, the thread title just screamed "post something off topic here"... so I did.

Anyway, I think Peeps has a Basslink in his GA, you might want to PM him for some tips/pointers.

I just used sheet metal screws to mount it to the floor using the supplied hardware...

Ditto what he said. It may take you a few tries to get to the right spot where the metal doesn't overlap. It's a bitch to get through some areas.

And peeps will vouch for me....don't forget to put the fuse in the the power line!!

so drilling is involved? Hmmm. Well I got a 2002 GT with monsoon and thinking about getting a basslink soon. I like where you mounted it peeps, thats where I was thinking of mounting it. Can I have the basslink turn on and off from the monsoon's signal? Where would I get the power from?

Yes...use the same power line the Monsoon HU is using. Remember you don't want a constant power source or the Basslink will never turn off. I'd show you pics of mine but it looks exactly like peeps except my wires stickigng out are covered in yellow wire loom!

Couple questions here.....Did you drill pilotholes first before putting the screws in? Also, I thought you didnt have to use a remote turn on, as the unit would automatically detect a signal? If this is not the case, could you just wire it directly to a switched fuse in the fusebox? Thanks for the help!

Hmm...it's been so long I forget. I'll have to check to see if mine is directly connected to the HU power source later today. As for drilling, I just got some metal deck screws I think and drilled straight through the carpet and everything after laying down the two base legs and chalking where the holes were supposed to go.

Sorry, I'm not so bright today....Did you drill pilot holes, or did you just use self tapping screws? Thanks, and let me know about the power wire!

Ahh... Sorry 'bout the ambiguity. I used self tapping deck screws I think. The trick is to drill quickly- otherwise the carpet threads wind around the screw AND the sticky sound deadener stuff under the carpet gums it up and slows down the screw.

For the remote turn on lead, it is wire E10 in the the Monsoon amp harness which is located behind the carpet where I mounted my Basslink. It is dark green. Splice into that for your turn on lead. You will also find your speaker signals in the same harness...

For the speaker signal pinouts, read this thread....

Thanks for the help...I went to the Inifinity website, and the instructions say you need not use the remote turn on if you are using speaker wire inputs. The unit will automatically turn on...Just a little FYI.

yeah, but i would rather depend on something that i know already works in the car for the monsoon amp.....

you will be splicing into the speaker wires anyways, so what is one more splice?

I don't have the Monsoon, so any idea on what the wire color would be on my system?!?!

Thanks for all the input, Peeps!

Since you have a '99, do you have the stock amp in the trunk? Pull down the carpet on the left side of the trunk. You should see a small unit with wires connected to it. If you see this, then you have the amp and rear dual-voice coil speakers. This amp is rated at 50 watts total.

I also learned from reading my 2002 Grand am Brochure that the monsoon amp puts out 240w total. The 2003 brochureI have or any official pontiac website doesn't mention this.

I don't get it. How many speakers are on the rear deck? I see from the Monsoon System Pinouts thread:

E4 LT BLU Right Rear Speaker Output (-)
E5 DK BLU Right Rear Speaker Output (+)
E6 BRN Left Rear Speaker Output (+)
E7 YEL Left Rear Speaker Output (-)

F4 PPL Left Rear Tweeter Speaker Output (-)
F5 RED Left Rear Tweeter Speaker Output (+)
F10 YEL Right Rear Tweeter Speaker Output (-)
F11 WHT Right Rear Tweeter Speaker Output (+)

F13 LT BLU/BLK Right Subwoofer Speaker Output (-)
F14 DK GRN Right Subwoofer Speaker Output (+)
F15 DK BLU/WHT Left Subwoofer Speaker Outlet (+)
F16 LT GRN/BLK Left Subwoofer Speaker Outlet (-)

So there are 3 speakers on the rear deck? For the basslink, I would have to tap into the subwoofer speaker output lead right? If I did this, would any bass go through the rear speakers anymore?
