Unhappy Fuse? What?

I have a 1997 grand am gt. My battery light stays on. The alternator test good, the battery is new, and I put a new belt on. Yet the alternator will not charge the battery. I have been told it could be a fuse. Where in the world would that be? I was just told yesteday to replace the plug on the bottom of the alternator. Before I do anything else are there any tips. Please my daughter needs me.

I don't trust alternator tests. I've had them tested at auto parts stores and tell me they are good, but when it's in the car it doesn't make enough juice. Usually it's the voltage regulator that goes bad. When you start turning on accessories and demanding more power from the alternator, the regulator won't increase the output. They can't test putting a load on it like that on those testers at the store. You have to do it in the car with the engine running and use a volt meter.
