Black housed headlights

Was wondering for the people who had them, like Chaos, tipnitty, Aaron, solutions_auto, and whoever else has had them.

Hows the light output for them with stock halogen bulbs? Just curious because I don't know if the parts that are painted black would affect the stock output much.

Only reason I ask if I plan on getting them soon once I get a new header panel because the other one cracked near the top and I'm getting tired/growing out of the whole halo/LED thing.

I just bought them 2 weeks ago and not only do they look awesome, but I actually think that the light output is better. I did buy new bulds though. Mine are not HID though, I went with the stock look black housing headlights.

Mine were okay with silverstars, good with HIDs.

I think Nick still has my old ones...

The light output and pattern is definitely worse than stock. It's not terrible, but I could notice it. In the city it probably doesn't matter much. In the country where it's dark and there isn't much other traffic, it might seem too dark and you could need some auxiliary driving lights or HID's.

The output is definitly worse then stock. I live in a small town and drive country roads all the time and noticed a huge difference. I put HID's in them and they are much better. The HID's dont glare as bad in these headlights and dont blind oncoming drivers.

Agreed with the above. The output was a tad bit worse. But my stock headlights were hazy so the output actually got a little bit better. After I put in the HID's, game over. Great set up with BOH and HID's.

From what I've heard I'd probably just get some 5k HIDs since it does kinda make sense that with the black housing the glare wouldn't be as bad/non existent.

5k would be fine. I have used 6k's in my past 3 cars.

I used 6k as well, has a nice color to it but not enough to affect the light output. But its whatever you want.

I'm using 6k HID's in mine, 35 watt bulbs. With the black housings glare isn't as bad. 55 watt bulbs might be too much though. The beam pattern still sucks, but at least the light output is better so I can still see. Eventually I plan to do a projector retro-fit into them, but for now at least they work.

Yeah I just want a pure white with the least mount of blue in it so I always intended on going with 5k.

Though I'd bring this thread back up to the topic about HIDs in the black housed regular reflector headlights.

Do you have to aim them any differently then when they had halogens in them? And would 35W 5k HIDs be any different glare wise then 6ks?

The temperature (color) shouldn't affect the glare at all. As for aiming, yeah you will probably need to do some adjusting on them since the light output is different than with a halogen bulb. Bulb type has a lot to do with it, even between different types of HID bulbs.

So would it be more up or down? Or does it just depend on certain things?

Aim them a bit more down than you would with halogens.
