This GTO...

Well I've been contemplating on this car for a long time now and over the past 6 months I still cant get it off my mind! Over the time period this GTO that I have been obsessed with has dropped down to 15,500 when it was originally 17,000... So the other day I went and took a look at it and needless to say its pretty amazing, I instantly fell in love with it... and then once I opened the doors my love grew even more! I did not have time to take it for a test drive, but I just told them I would stay in touch... The feeling I've been having lately is that I wanted to continue saving money until next Spring to lay down a down payment of at least 4k, and not sure if this has anything to due with what happened but my family has bought numerous cars from this dealer and my brother is best friends with the owners son, who in return just notified me today that he would take 14k for the car! I just cant decide what to do... I know they say if you want something you have to pull the trigger, but I guess what it comes down to is do I really need it?

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?

zip=43420&endYear=2013&modelCode1=GTO&startYear=19 81&makeCode1=PONT&searchRadius=100&bodyStyleCodes= COUPE&listingId=330309210&Log=0

Some more details its has roughly 60,000 miles on it, I say this because the car is currently being driven by the dealer manager Upon some more research I think if I was really gonna be in the market for one I would really prefer an 05/06 because of the ls2 and they look better... it just would seem logical to pay more for the extra power and better looks, because if you know me... If I buy this car im gonna go scrounging around looking for the hood and wheels!

3rd is what should I do with the grand am, I have a one car garage... my grandfather just passed away and my mom has given me permission to store the cars in his garage, but this wont be a permanent home... and there is no way I would leave the grand am or this car sit outside throughout Winter, I really love the Grand Am it holds so much personal value than what it is worth knowing I did all of the work and locating all of the parts since I was in the 10th grade! I just dont know what to do I really want it but I dont know if the timing is right? I feel like it is a major waste of money to build up the grand am since im not good at motor work, im gonna be looking at 3k to do my stage 2 build which I am saving for currently but willing to scrap for this car...

Can't speak for anyone but myself, but as much as I love my GA, if I could swing the money for the goat, I'd go for it.

Thanks for the input Mark, its just hard to consider the need for having 2 Summer cars? It would make the most sense to get rid of the grand am but at the same time that is very difficult to do when I think my car looks better than this GTO... but my grand am isnt stock anymore, with some slight modding to this GTO it would look alot better!

If it was me I'd have to hold out for the 6.0.

But as you said your not into motor work so personally you've made it just as far as you can with the GA and it looks great! So now you have the choice to move up in power to a car you can't get out of your head. Do it. Whether or not you keep the GA its up to you but I say go for the goat. Unfortunately winter is upon us so idk about that timing. Not that you can't drive it in snow but WHO WOULD WANT TO if they could avoid it.

That's what I thought too, until I put more thought into the process... Im starting to realize how realistically of a waste it would be to build a 3.4 N/A and knowing that im probably not gonna be satisfied with the results, yet if I dont drop the hammer on this car im probably still gonna go through with the build... which is stupid yet again.

Its difficult at this point I wish I didnt mod the grand am at all, should of just kept it clean stock, and saved for a better car?

Yes the 04 is equipped with the ls1... The 05-06 come with the ls2... which is also hindering me in making a decision, but its difficult to pass up a car like this! Its pretty much flawless, the bumper and mirrors could use a re-paint but hell thats common. And quite frankly im tired of black paint!

Yeah, thanks for the thought Erik... its difficult with the grand am when the really cool stuff like the superchargers and turbo's are so rare to come buy! I think the whole Winter perspective is why the dealer told me they would take 14k for it, im sure they dont want it sitting outside either? The funny thing is when I talked them down to 15k originally, I just went in there telling them that they would have a difficult time selling it because it was an 04, the GTO fanatics are gonna be in the market for the 05-06 because of the greater power, and better wheels, and the hood of course... they took my word on that!

DO NOT buy a 2004 !!!!!!!

Not to mention, that car is EXTREMELY overpriced. 2004 = $12-13k at most. I sold my 2006 with 55,000 miles for $15,750. You can buy 2005's for $15k easily. Look on the LS2GTO forum. Not to mention you say you aren't buying till next Spring? By then you are looking at almost a 7 year old car for even an '06 model. You'll be hard pressed to find a loan for a 2005 or even a 2004 as they will be 8 and 9 year old cars. In reality, unless paying cash, your only choice is a 2006. If you can't swing the $2k more or so for that model year at such a low price point to begin with, then you probably should not be buying the car at all.

That car is a ripoff. And BTW, as a former owner of that exact car, let me just pass along that for me, the blue interior got really tiring after a couple years. It turns into the feel of riding inside a blueberry.

I would jack this. Good condition but I'm not much on how prices should be so idk if thats a good price.

Me personally wouldn't tune this up the ass but I would take it to the drags every once in a while. 5.7 is good enough for me. Was at my dads work waiting on my car and a yellow GTO 5.7 came in the service area and sounded beautiful. Was stock too.

Well I just did a kbb... and it came up at 15.5K for an 04? I willing to spend a little more than what it would be worth to make sure I come out with a physically sound car with no dings and all the minor issues I hate! I will do some more research on prices, thanks for the insight Bob. And what about a blueberry? I guess my car is like a cherry then? And yeah a GTO will be my next car its just all about waiting for the right one I guess? Im not gonna mod it up the ace, would probably just start with appearance work first...

nada.org is where the banks get loan info, kbb is nice if you're selling your car. it's values are quite a bit over nada.

Mine would be more like a cherry. Yours is more like a black berry

Bein honest. Wouldn't mind riden around in a blueberry on wheels. Blue is my favorite color so I don't think it would get old anytime soon.

Alright, well maybe I should wait a little bit longer to see if it drops anymore... Kinda found it suspicious that they would call me saying that they would take 14k?

OK, you are missing my point. Short of them giving it away for like $11k....DO NOT BUY A 2004....PERIOD

They are the black sheep of the GTO and LS crowd. Value is worth crap and no one wants them. Using the "it's still a V8 with 350hp and is good enough" excuse still makes no sense when you can have the more valuable car for $2k more. I bet if you look good enough you can find a 2005 blue on blue M6 for $15k.
