Im a great detailer for any of you to question that I guess you would have to see my work in person... I work on this car everyday, its a pain in my ass to see a flawless finish, and then a week later back to swirls galore again!!! The grand am doesnt see the elements, seems to collect dust no matter what I do even when its kept in the garage with a de-humidifier running! Dust is removed with a California car duster, car is cover with a coverking cover while in the garage at the same time! I take it to an extreme level of maintaining a show car shine... and it still cant be done! yes black does look the best while clean, its just not worth it! I get pissed over swirls imagine if I had to drive this damn thing to work even on a nice day it would be caked in dust!

Damn, this car is overpriced... according to that guide estimated retail at 60,000 miles is $11,785... Looked up the grand am too $3000 trade in value? Someone would have to point a gun to my head to let it go for that! The best way to get rid of a car is private sale only... trade ins are a joke!

Wanting nice cars is a terrible cancer of a hobby! For me its one or the other, to buy it or continue on with the Grand Am. I have no family... and I live with my parents... and get basically free schooling... as of right now I feel like the grand am is the only nice thing I have in my life, so in short its difficult to explain this situation, I guess its because im young but by thinking this through I realize its unnecessary and just not to be, I guess?

Anyways thanks for the comments and input guys! For whatever reason they are really trying to push this car, I seem to think its because its an 04, they called me again at work! New final offer of 12k... I dont think I can do it... or atleast I understand it would be stupid too, while at the same time I feel like its to nice of a car to let it go to waste! Got quoted at 300 a month on a 3 year dealer loan... I feel like I could easily do it, plus I would be throwing in spare money to get it payed off faster? Just to throw it out there...

how old are you and how many years do you have left in school? Are you taking student loans? I ask this because it would help to know where you will be in 3 years. If you have 1 year left of school and student loans, then you have to consider that you will be moving out of your parents' house and will need to pay off loans.

I dont see it worth it to take out a loan on an almost 10 year old car. I did it, and I regretted it after the excitement wore off. just consider all things and then if it still makes sense to you, then do it. I wouldnt call $12k overpriced, but if they ok with $12k then id try for $10k.

an Associates will get you nothing more than a $10/hr job. You'd be lucky to find a $20/hr job even with a 4 year degree now. You need a valuable skill + piece of paper (degree or certification in a trade).

You do not need a new (used) vehicle right now. Focus on your goal for 5 years down the road from now.

This. Dont do it dude, just because you can doesnt mean you should. Save your money, because you know in 5 years there will be a new car out that you WANT and then youll be stuck with the GA and GTO that are 10+ years old. It's not worth it, trust me.

I'll jump it play the devils advocate here - that's a pretty fair deal they offered, maybe get a little more off that, and pull the trigger. I guess it depends on how important having a set of wheels you really like is to you. Bob's advice is pretty solid, you don't want to put yourself into a really bad financial place. But it doesn't sound like that would be the case. And, if you don't go crazy with miles and keep the car in nice shape, you'll probably be able to stay on pace with the value, especially as you get further into the loan you'll be ahead.

I agree, if you're being choosy, an '05-'06 is definitely a better choice. It depends on what attracts you to the car. If you like it because of the looks, and intend to casually cruise it, look nice, sound good, and maybe have a little fun here and there, the 04 is just fine. True, the 05+ is faster, little better drivetrain, few appearance bonuses. That doesn't make the 04 worthless - if they had not done that revision at all, people would still like those cars for what they are, a big v8 powered, rwd modern muscle/tourer. If I hadn't needed 4 doors when I bought the Charger, I would have bought a GTO. To me, I'm interested in getting to the track, and generally getting all the performance I can, so the 05+ would matter a little more to me - at those price points the extra money is worth it to me. But, even an 04 is still a lot of fun - I remember a test-ride in Pucci's when he and I swapped his headers onto my GA - that was a blast.

In the end, it's about what matters to you. I've always lived a little on the extreme when it comes to buying and selling cars, I've had a bunch of different rides, and lost some money along the way doing it. But, to me its the price of admission to having stuff I enjoy driving around, trying new cars, etc. I buy right, sell high, and usually make out pretty good - and I love the heck out of doing it, so to me, if it's a good deal and you're not gonna lose your ass on it, why not?

Im with bob on this. The last thing you want to do is have a stupid car payment 2 years from now, struggling to make it with your job, and trying to move out of your parents house.

Once you are living on your own, with a stable job, you can reward yourself for working hard with a fun car. until then, keep your eye on the prize...independence.

Heck, im making 6 figures, and i am barely able to pay the bills, paying a mortgage, car payment for the "family car", and paying off all of my debt. I still have my goal of getting a fun car again, but I will only do it when I know that its truely EXTRA money.

take it from me...I was in your position. I bought my camaro for a good price. I was just out of school, with a decent job. I was single, and had a company car to drive daily. 2 years later I was engaged, living with my fiance, and trying to save for a house. I ended up selling the car eventually, for a profit, but I could have saved lots more money in that time had I not bought the car. Honestly, I dont regret it, but looking back, I would have been better off saving that money in a savings account or investing it.

Have you ever met a girl that just isn't "right now", but you could see yourself with her at a different stage of life?

That goat is kinda like that. It sucks saying no to yourself, but it's really the absolute best thing to do man. Hate to rain on a parade, or pee on a really pretty goat, but it's for the best

Good luck with your purchase, if you really do buy it. I hope you really enjoy it. I know I'd love a goat myself, but it's not a possibility right now. I just hope I can find one in good shape in a couple of years when I'll have the money to spend.

It's like this...we all love the car hobby. We do things to our cars that make he average person scratch their head at. In a perfect world, we would never mod cars, all save our money and never spend a dime on things we want, and not just necessities.

Spending money on a car isn't a good investment 95% of the time. Do most of us care? Hell no, that's why it's a hobby. It's something we enjoy doing, something not everyone will understand. It's your money, it's your time. Plan out your life goals, of course, ahead of your car hobby goals, but it doesn't mean you have to swear off enjoying anything to do with a car.

But at your age, it'll be murder owning a GTO, you'll hate the gas mileage if its going to be your only car. Insurance will be insane to boot.
