Yeah, I'd really like to see the list for the rear GXP swap too. I'm due for new discs and pads on the rear, but I'd really like something bigger. If the cost isn't that much extra, I might just save up and get the upgrade.

yeah with so much confussion for the fronts, and now perhaps a rear setup, we should definatly have a new thread to clear things up. kind of like the "how to make my car go faster" thread.

Here's the part numbers I have on file -
2 rear single piston aluminum calipers - Left - GM part # - 89060369 Right - GM part # - 89060370 2 rear caliper brackets - GM part # - 88965593 you need 2 2 rear 12" rotors - GM part # - 88965595 you need 2 1 set rear pads - GM part # - 89060372 I want to say that everything is from a 05-06 Grand Prix GXP (with the 5.3L V8). If you want to use plain rear rotors, you can use CENTRIC Part # 12162091. I used everything above on my car except for the calipers - I chose to use C6 Corvette rear calipers (to match my C6 front calipers). I did have to slightly enlarge the holes in the caliper "ears" to use the GP GXP hardware. Rear rotors are factory GP GXP; 12.0x0.8" (vented). Front rotors are factory C6 Corvette; 12.8x1.26" (vented), 17" wheels. Pics attached.

Never saw your car before.
5 stars, nice clean Alero. The wheels flow with it perfectly too, just need some center caps . Those wheels where in my choices but thought it'd look weird since the spokes are so small. Now I'm really wanting to do the brake upgrade since you can get some rear big brakes that "match" with the fronts. Any idea of how much it cost total?

I looked up current prices on gmpartsdirect and it looks like it would be almost $500 exactly (plus shipping) for all new parts minus pads. The pad part number didn't turn up any results, and for some reason now their search catalog doesn't include Pontiac, even for the years they were produced (I'm not happy about that!). Stop tech or Hawk HPS rear pads can be had from tire rack though for $54 or $64 respectively. Probably gonna be out of my price range for now unless I can find some used ones or a wrecked car (unlikely given their rarity). Quick off topic question. Do you remember what model/year car(s) I can cross reference to get pads for the Baer front brake kit? I know I wrote it down somewhere but I can't find it for the life of me, and I need new front pads too. I think it was like certain year mustangs and C4 'vettes or something, but I can't recall for certain. EDIT: forgot to ask one thing. What about the parking brake? Do those discs and calipers work with the stock parking brake cable and hardware?

I looked on rock auto and did find some cheaper parts there. They have some separate calipers, discs, and brackets, but they also have some calipers that come complete with pads/brackets/hardware. Some of them are kind of expensive, but they have some remans from A-1 cardone for about $100 each. A/C delco rotors (cross drilled OEMs) for $48.79 a piece. All together with pads it would be about $350 + shipping versus $550 from GMPD. Not too terrible.

Yep, the stock drum-in-hat parking brake does not change.

2. Try a 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. 3. Works fine; no mods or anything additional required.

i don't know much on interchangeability between corvette models but when i bought the front corvette calipers i got the whole set for cheap when i did.
basically what i'm asking is would the c5 rears work with this. the place i got them from years ago even gave me the crusty ass pads. the whole set is PBR casted. i got camaro fronts also to run until i got bigger rims. |

Hmm, that's interesting. Do you know if the vette brackets will work too, or do you have to get the GXP brackets and the 'vette calipers? Lighter and stronger sounds good to me, so I'd be inclined to do the same as you and get the vette calipers. They are a little more expensive though. And I can get the GXP ones from A1 cardone already powder coated red with pads and hardware for around $130 which isn't bad. Decisions decisions....
I'll probably have to just get the front pads changed for now and save up the money to do the rears.

i haven't bought any of the GXP stuff yet. i've had the vette stuff for like 5yrs. got all 4 front and rear off ebay for like $120 shipped way back..got the camaro stuff around then too since i still needed the brackets..
i'll try tomorrow and see if it works. might not work with the vette brackets. i know the fronts didn't work. |
