IL has had that testing for 96+ models for a good while now. They ditched the tail pipe and drive loop testing for anything older. Not that huge of a deal depending on the modifications and available cheats for the ECM system. I pass my testing every year despite having no EGR and no O2 monitor sensor plugged in.

the changed to this a few years back. before that 95 and older had to hit the rollers to do the sniff test. right around the time i bought the subaru they changed the whole system. think that was around 4yrs ago.

older than 96 as long as it's not falling apart or blowing smoke your golden.

same thing here too. got a feeling you do the same trickery i do. but mines more for the fact that i don't want to drive around forever to reset the monitors in the ecm.. mine comes from having the battery unhooked over the winter and the inspection sticker runs out in the spring.

Presently, a vehicle with the “check engine” light on may pass, but next year that’s an automatic fail.
been that way here for as long as i can remember. seems like canada was a little lazy. the light's there for a reason if it's on the car shouldn't pass.

Drive Clean tweaks test process after driver complaints
Quote:
The inherent problem with OBD testing is that it doesn’t take into account the effects of winter temperatures on vehicles, says Gerson.
The evaporative system may not operate fully in cold weather, so the on-board computer can never complete the self-test and give the monitor a “ready” status.
