Oil in the plenum normal?
Maybe I'm being paranoid or just being a dumbass, but is this normal?
Just wondering since I had to replace my cat a little more than a month ago.

somewhat, it's likely from the PCV system... make sure your PCV valve still makes noise when you shake it... if it goes bad I think you can have excessive oil consumption..

Yeah.. It still makes noise.. I shook it when I took it off to change out the rubber piece connecting the plenum to my SC

Looks normal to me.
Do you still have your EGR hooked up?

I could be wrong but the SC could be forcing more oil then what you would normally see with a N/A car
I think Aaron or maybe someone else said they had to switch to dual catch cans because of that. I am fairly certain that with the pcv system all cars will get some oil up in the intake.

Yeah Phil. I've never done the EGR delete even though I have the parts to do so.

This is why it's a good idea to delete the PCV and install a catch can on boosted setups. The purpose of the catch can is to capture blow by.

Matt, what they're not telling you is your car is junk now. They don't want to tell you.
Might as well just give it to me, and move on ![]() ![]()

I suspect both as they both force more air in which then creates the likely hood of more air passing the rings

Yeah, that looks like pretty normal build up from the PCV and EGR systems. A catch can in the PCV line would probably reduce that a good bit, but not totally eliminate it. It's not an issue though.

Well. I guess I stripped the lower bolt/threads reattaching the elbow to the plenum yesterday. Started throwing the P0171 code (too lean), idles rough and it has a whiney air leak.. :-(
I can spin the bolt w/ just a socket head using my fingers... Gotta go hit Pull-A-Part

You might have stripped the plenum itself, may need to be helicoiled.

at the scooby doo remark.Basically its a stainless steel coil that replaces the threads. The hole needs to be drilled out and using a sti tap to insert the coil. The kit will supply you with the bolt needed too. You can find a good read through Google that can explain it better than I can, but that's basically what it is. |

Yeah, helicoil might work. Also, if you have a thread tap you can drill and tap the holes deeper. I did that with mine because the bolts they used in the original SC kit didn't go all the way in the holes. I drilled and tapped them all the way through the UIM flange and bought some longer bolts to go in there. That way there is less chance of stripping them. Might want to do that either way, whether you use a helicoil or get a new mani, or both.
