CAI Water Shield

After having problems with water intrusion entering my CAI when it rains, I built this neat little water shield today from a roof pipe boot which was pretty simple. The shield covers most of the front side of the filter against water intrusion inside the fender. The remaining exposed backside will be covered when the fender well is re-installed.

Not sure how effective it will be yet but it's better than the few expensive plastic shields on the market. Originally I had the K&N mounted sitting behind the bumper so I pulled it back to where it is now. The Injen Hydroshield is just for added protection and to help keep the filter cleaner plus I already had in on hand.

Note: The K&N filters have a longer neck and the ebay filter neck is too short to extend through the top of the boot before bottoming out and may not work with this mod.

If you're getting water up there, are you sure the underside plastic is all in one piece? Lined up properly? Most people haven't noticed any problems, that I've read about anyway.

but it looks real good, I'll give you that, good job on fitment, almost looks oem

Here's how I originally had it installed so I think a lot of water was coming in around the headlight and fender openings up top and running inside the filter. The CAI tube actually had water sitting in it when I took it apart.

Oh, did you go all DIY on it? The premade kits have them "pointing" down basically, so yea that could've been it

No...this was a kit I bought off ebay, but I bought the K&N filter at Advance Auto. Don't forget I have a 3500 engine so the tube alignment is different from the 3400.

The trick is to order the right size. They have specific sizes listed for the Injen filters but not other brands so you have to measure the filter and buy the closest size that will fit. I added some extra length so it would extend under the clamp but that's probably not really necessary after seeing the product.

Hopefully I can take some pictures this weekend. It's jacked up with the front wheels off right now so not really presentable.

Yeah....it's got a G6 engine, Uplander manifolds, Camaro front brakes, soon to be Alero rear disc brakes and a few other variations of things, so it's definitely a hy-breed. My son is saving up stories to tell about this car since it's really his when it's all done.

This is one of the few reasons I stick with the stock airbox rather then getting the fenderwell CAI for the GA

My plastic is broke under the driver side up front by the driving light, and I've never seen water spots, and that was without the driving lights in, before I put TruGreen's leds back in there.

The stock airbox lid would not fit with the 3500 UIM due the the spacer required for the TCE 65mm TB, so I really had no choice but install the CAI in this situation.
