59MM Throttle body

Im looking on milzy and seen a 59MM Ported stock 56MM TB. I states the stock port size is 58mm and the stock TB is 56mm so will a 59MM TB make some difference in power or is it to small of a difference to notice anything.

LINK

I have 2.5" exhaust from downpipe back if that will help.

If anything, got for a 65mm its honestly the best bang for the buck in the TB. You could do a 68mm but thats a little excessive on a N/A motor.

You will notice a little more in the 65mm then a 59mm, trust me it looks better and is worth the money.

I actually drove to MMS to pick mine up, its about 3 hour drive for me, worth driving there and plus i always love going to his shop seeing what hes up to.

the TB isn't really an HP maker, by itself. i put competition P+P intakes by WOT-tech on mine and that really made a butt-dyno gain. a week later i put the 65mm TB on, and no additional gain was felt.
also, the throttle didn't feel any more "responsive" to me. that's the opposite of what folks usually say about the big TB.

Right, you need ported manifolds to really benefit it, with a cai. Id say my throttle response is better IMO. Can really hear it suck in alot of air too

Go big or go home!

Its just like a cam, you get a performance cam and do nothing else, yeah you can see some hp out of it, but with supporting mods added to a cam swap, like heads, helping the motor "injest" more air (intake, TB, p&p manifolds) along with help push it out (headers, better flowing exhaust) you will get a lot of power just for adding a cam.

I've never seen nor heard of a 58 or 59mm TB. The stock throttle plate opening is 56mm. The main opening of the stock TB itself is an oblong shape that funnels down to the throttle plate. Back in the day RSM racing used to offer a stock TB that was bored out to 61mm with a larger throttle plate. That was about as big as you could go without making the metal too thin. Then TCE started making the billet TB's with the round opening in 62mm and 65mm sizes, and they are offered through Milzy, WOT tech, and others.

I'd go for a billet 62mm unit myself on an NA engine. I don't think you'll see a lot of power from it though (maybe none) unless you've got other parts to match. At least a CAI and ported UIM/LIM. Ported heads and cam would give you even more. It's one of those parts that multiplies the gains from other NA mods, but by itself it doesn't do much.

a 65mm wouldn't hurt anything if you got that, but it's not going to give you any improvement over a 62 unless you add boost.

Ok well it sounds like I will be getting a 65mm and a port UIM to match. Maybe Milzy headers down the line.

One more question. I'm thinking of going with a 3500 Throttle body since I can get one in my junk yard for $10 and I will just order an adapter plate and port match a UIM my self. Question is how do i go about the throttle body bracket since I heard it needs some DIY work.

Actually I'm talking about the 3.5L DOHC throttle body from Oldsmobile but Yeah there 65mm TBs stock and bolt up with an adapter but the cable bracket needs a mod. Be awesome to do this and save alot of money and get great throttle response still.

WOT TECH sells the TBs and the adapter.

65 is good. Im actually going with the LX5 throttle body after all. I ordered the Adapter from WOT TEC and pulled the TB from a yard for $25. All that need to be done is a modded TB cable bracket and I have a welder and the tools to do it.

Here is a modded Bracket the 60DegreeV6 forums i found. Its the 3400 bracket modded to fit, Its Cut and welded. I like projects and making things so it should be enjoyable.

Bought all the parts for under $100 compared to $230+ for TCE. And if i wanna get fancy i can polish the outside on it to be shiny like a TCE.

that's cool.. just for my swap that would have required too many adaptor plates LX9>LA1>LX5 talk about a throttle body spacer

65mm is overkill for a non-boosted engine. 68mm is completely unnecessary.
