The tech flex arrived today. I now plan to use my extra custom 6 conductor wire to make my own RCA cables now. I will order some tech flex in another color for those.

Btw, if anyone plans to use tech flex, use a soldering iron or a hot knife to cut it. That will coterize the ends and prevent it from fraying.

Ok got both sides of the speaker cable done.

Yes I know that they are not braided exactly the same, I did a better job this last piece. Doesn't matter, it will be hidden under carpet anyways.

I also ordered tech flex for my RCA that I am building and I also ordered some for the speaker level wires going to to the ms-8 which will also have speaker wire for a center channel (future expansion). Each of these two pieces of tech flex are different colors, not clear. Stay tuned for all of that wire construction.

I also got a piece of 12 conductor wire from parts express that has foil shielding and I got RCA connectors from them as well. I'm still debating if I want to use wire pants or heat shrink. I can't find 6 channel pants so I would have to use a 4 and a 2, or I can make it look clean with heat shrink. Price isnt too different.

Pretty fancy looking wires

I'd just do the heat shrink, I've always had real good luck with it, I've never used pants tho, so I am biased a little I suppose

Thanks bri. Yea I figured that as long as I'm going to do all of this wiring I might as well make it look nice.

So now on to the RCAs. Just a reminder, these will be 6 channels RCAs, so 6 plugs on each end. Since each plug gets a + and - that means 12 conductors. Also, the blue is a foil shielding. It only gets grounded at one end, so I removed it from the other end.
So the wire and tech flex came. I am now just waiting on the RCA ends.

I got the snake pattern because I wanted to be different. It should look nice once it's done.

Yea man, I've never used top end wire, that is very sweet looking! Is the sleeve shielded then? Or is every individual wire?

Nice looking install as always Dave!

Random q: what does the tech flex do? Is it malleable and hold a shape e.g. if you bent it at a 90* angle would it maintain that bend?

Just curious because the company I work for now (doing product development) has one brand we're launching in high-end home theater and personal audio. We'd be competing against companies like beats, Sony, Speakercraft, etc. on the low-end but we're more of in the Klipsch, AT, Bose, B&O, B&W, etc. range in terms of pricing and quality. I'm still learning the nuances of this industry (I'm spread across 5 different brands so a lot to digest!) and it's an interesting material use.

At one point we were looking at getting into wheel manufacturing for a brand as well extending this new brand into car audio so just curious as to what tech flex does since I haven't come across it yet.

See below, the tech flex is not shielded. Each individual wire is shielded, that's the blue color on one end of the wiring. They coated the foil shielding so that easy one wouldn't short with the others.

Tech flex is just a covering for the wire. It's an added layer of protection, kind of like split loom, but nicer. It does not hold shape unless you heat it (melt it). It is similar to what kimber kable uses on their expensive cables. This is my first project using it, but I have been very impressed with the quality and outcome.

I have been buying it through wirecare.com but they also sell it at parts-express.com.

RCA cable update...I'm 1/2 way done with the plugs. I've had to revise my methods slightly but I'm learning as I go along...

I'm kind of proud of myself, these cables are 100x better than $200+ cables and I spent a fraction of that plus I get the pleasure of doing it myself. $40 on the plugs, $10 on the wire, $8 on the tech flex, and $5 on heat shrink.

Thanks guys for the PHing. It makes me feel all warm and gooey inside.

Finished the RCAs. I got a bunch of extra plugs so if anyone wants custom RCAs send me a private message for pricing.

I'm preparing to do this install next week while my wife is in Budapest. I won't have her bugging me to spend time with her (after the kid is asleep) and I can drive her car to work.

Work. There's an adult conference there (like adult con) but with the European Union. It's not what it seems, she's a media buyer for an adult entertainment company...so when you go to a porn site and you get those pop up ads, she put that there. Lol she gets to go to London, Amsterdam, Miami, Budapest...I wish I could make it this year, maybe next year.

Haha it's the opposite...she comes home from work sometimes and is like hey check out what I saw at work...and proceeds to show me disgusting videos (ones that make two girls one cup look like kindergartner work). She has made me hate adult content. Lol (search "giant vag!na eats banana") but of course don't misspell it.

But I do have fun visiting her at work. There's no naked people there, but lots of it on computer screens.
