Well on the AcDelco/NGK iridium plugs is the gap preset or do I need to set the gap?

You need to gap

Even if it's pre gapped or not I still check it.

Got everything for $60 total. AcDelco Iridium Spark Plugs (41-101 X6) and AcDelco wires (88862391 X1) Not too bad.

Nice where'd you pick it up from? And how difficult is it to change the plugs? I want to assume it's as easy as screw it out and screw the new one in?

It's rather easy to do the plugs on the LA1. Since it's a pushrod engine, the plugs are on the sides of the heads, unlike a SOHC or DOHC engine where they're on the top and go down into the heads.

The front three are easy, the back three are best gotten with the coil packs out of the way. But leave them on the ignition control module and remove the ICM itself and move it with the coil packs.

It'll take anywhere from a half hour to an hour. OH, remember to coat the threads on the plugs with anti-seize, the heads on the LA1 are aluminum. Odin forbid you accidentally cross thread a plug slightly, or one is ready cross threaded.

Will do, thanks for the info! I got the parts at a local distributor that I knew from my shop.

I can change the back plugs without unbolting the coil packs, but it really is easier to unbolt and does not take much if any time.

Welp, I was headed home after my final on Friday, it was around 7:45 p.m with about a three hour trip ahead of me. I got about 45 minutes out of Carbondale when my drive shaft slammed to the ground (going about 60 mph). I was stranded there for about 10 minutes until someone stopped to help me out. The guy actually used to live in my home town at one point (small world). We sat there for about an hour and a half waiting on the tow truck to get there. The guy kept me company the whole time, trying brighten the mood a little bit. Anyway, my friend came and got me from Mount Vernon that night. Got home around 3:30 a.m. My parents had hopped on a plane to Florida around 7:00 p.m that night as well. Here is a couple pictures from that night. Moral of story, there are still some good people in this world.

Nearest store was 20 miles away. My insurance covered the tow to the dealership. They are looking at it now, and I should be getting a call with a quote. I'm really hoping its under $1000.
