If it were a former pd car, you'd probably be close to a deal already

Ok found several couple different prices, the driveshaft will usually survive have a shop check its balance and if its straight, dont take the dealers word it needs replacing.
ok first near to you, or at least I hope so.

Man, that is half tempting... I already have one 200,000 mile ford 5.4, not sure I need another... I actually have to hunt down a drip on the truck tomorrow

Those are sorted by distance from you, they can also be sorted by price, they had them for under 200 even for grade A parts but shipping them could cost a bit.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. That first one is a about two hours from me. Has high mileage, but I'll see what the shop says here once I get it back home. I trust these guys more than the stealership.

i dont know much about it, but can't you swap out just the gears, and replce the broken u-joint with out swapping the whole axle? to me would seem cheaper and easier. but maybe I'm wrong

walked out of advance auto and saw this! i walked right back inside and said "okay, who has the gto?" spent 10 minutes talking and listening to each other's cars.

grand am's water pump was getting loud. bearings were shot, but it wasn't leaking. but when i pulled it off, i expected water to run out. THE FRIGGIN THING WAS DDDDDRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY

And the coolant resevoir was empty too. So i'm thinking i've got a coolant leak AGAIN. i put the new pump on and filled it with water and let it idle for 20 minutes. Never saw a drop of water run down the block or drip off of anything. but i do see a trace of oil between the rear head and block.

also, i thought that when i filled the coolant tank up and let the car run, it would pull water out of the tank. But after 20m i unscrewed the lid and coolant shot out the overflow tube.

My temp gauge has been working fine. and i didn't ever get a low coolant warning light like always before. oil looks clean. only put 10k on it since the head gaskets were replaced.

the car sits outside in the grass, so i wouldn't notice a coolant puddle.

You can, but its not really cheaper. And it sure is not easier. The carrier is an extremely tight fit into the housing it requires a special tool that can actually pushout the side of the diff case, by mm's but still.

Then you have to set the gears exactly if they are out it will screw up your entire rear end.

That was the entire rear from one disc to the other? because the entire housing in this case is

If you mean all the gears inside like this

as you can see that ring gear is damn near the size of the housing.
