If you use a sqeegee or leather shammy you have to do it very carefully.
I've used a shammy on my vehicles and never noticed that. As long as you do regular detailing it wont leave the swirls on it.

It has cusion.

Heres a small vid. See once its wet you can ring out all water it has collected and keep using. It even comes in a little case to put it back in once done.

Of course there'll be videos saying either side of the story. Not to mention that video doesn't actually show the paint afterwards.

http://youtu.be/PZjWkB_q2lE?t=2m34s

But I prefer not to use it and its going well so far.

That was a squegee blade. Not a chamois clothe.

@ shamwow

so you'll use something you see on a infomercial on your paint, but not chamois?

I've been using Absorbers, which if I'm not mistaken is whats in the vid sleepy posted, for over 10 years now and they have never caused "micro swirls" or any other swirl for that matter.

the FACT of the matter is anytime anything touches your paint, fingers, sponges, towels, ect there is a chance swirls will be put in the paint. however, keeping the car waxed, and washed PROPERLY with the 2 bucket method will greatly reduce the chance of getting swirls. it doesn't matter if what your drying it with has a "cushion" or not, if it touches the paint, there is a chance swirls will happen.

i've had a "the original california water blade" for nearly 15 yrs.
when i finish the car wash, i use the soapy mitt to wipe both sides of the blade. then i rinse off the soapy water from it, and i hit as much of the car as i can. then i go over the crevices and corners that the blade cant get with a MF or the pink shammy that walmrt sells. i'm telling you, if done right, the blade does no harm.

i have washed the car in sunshine before. waterspots like you wouldn't believe. BUT the QD and a MF knocked out 97% of the spots, and even gave it a little glow like it was waxed. so Tanner's right about QD for waterspots.

Sunshine is the big thing..I always recommend washing in the shade and drying in a garage if available..best results. Heat "bakes in" your results..and wind..just throws crap back on your clean paint..

The sham wow is a completely different thing compared to your normal chamois.

Me and metal both use them and you see how our cars look. You can trust us.

What crevice can a towel not get into , I dry mine off with the towel and then use a filtered electric leaf blower to get the water out of the window seals and scoops etc.

I also use the california water blade. Just to get the heavy stuff off, then I dry the rest with a chamois and don't have to wring it out as much. Or I just use an ordinary cotton bath towel. Honestly I think a lot of those "special" towels are garbage. I don't hardly use microfiber for anything. I use cotton shop towels or bath towels for buffing out wax. The microfibers don't absorb water very well, and they don't slide across the paint very easily when buffing. They kind of "stick". Most of those synthetic chamois do the same thing. Real chamois and regular towels are the best there is.

i think if you did a total car "clay bar" the MF towels would slide easily. if they stick, there has to be something that they are sticking to.
i agree that they are sticky, but iirc, they slide off the hood after a clay bar treatment.

MF don't soak water very well? , You on that smoking pole son, get the drying MF towels, they're lovely, I can use one to dry my whole car, no streaks left behind or anything, dry the water with one side and buff off the rest with the other. They work best when moist FYI so at first when you put a completely dry MF on a wet car it won't do the best results. And MFs are the best for buffing off compound/polish/wax because of the little micro fiber claws or w.e you want to call them.

Rule of thumb is if the MF towel is too hard to move across the paint when buffing you need to use a new one because that one is too saturated.

I understand little MF towels not doing well, thats what I use the big drying towels, they are so big you won't have trouble moving it around the car.

MF towels are softer then cotton, which makes them best to use on cars finishes.
