Thanks and yeah HPT has come in VERY handy for engine codes and other things. Beats running up to autozone to figure out why your service light came on.

http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-CAN-...TM7DJS48M9J1VP i use to use it all the time to reset the 420 code on my old legacy. keep the little thing in the glove box. and recently i used it to see that my alternator wasn't quite doing it's job. $15 for a code reader that can do more or $200 for the dedicated code reader i bought years ago. |

Yeah but with hpt it can do everything a scanner can. Plus adjust things for tuning. All in all. I like hpt. Its everything you need in one.
You can scan the car while driving yo see what its doing. Tune the car, and look at codes/clear codes.

yeah but if all your doing is going to autozone to get them to clear codes and if you get the guy behind the counter that just doesn't give you the scanner and does it himself sometimes they won't erase the code since it's illegal or something like that.. kid at an autozone gave me some speech about that one time.
but seriously if that's all your doing is going there to get codes erased then spend the $15 bucks and be able to do it when ever you want. i have DHP but that only does GM stuff so i had to buy something when i got the subaru. even just clearing codes it's easier to pull out the little bluetooth adapter thing and do it that way rather than dig out the laptop. i don't know about you but i don't bring the laptop every time i take my car out. i can scan my car with the torque app. that's how i figured out the alternator wasn't charging correctly. at idle it was ok but when you had the headlights on and had to use the brakes for a long period of time it would slowly drain volts. then throw the heater in the mix and it was like NOPE. |

They always ask me if I want them cleared. I say yes or no.
I dont take my laptop EVERYWHERE when the car goes out. Only when im tuning and doing scans is when It comes with or I take it out for codes. But I dont mind. I have a carrying case for the laptop/hpt. Its not s big hassle to me. Once weather gets nice again ill be finishing up my tune.

sometimes they would give me the scanner and i could do it myself and sometimes the guy would come out and read it and maybe clear it and a couple times they read me the riot act about clearing the code.
i mean it could have been the rear o2 sensor going south or it could have been the cat going bad. i sure as hell wasn't replacing a cat on a 13+yr old car. |

Aaron, I'll repeat what my long time dude there says.
If they're bad, they do sometimes slip past these testers... but if they show bad here, THEY BAD ![]() |

You can find that out just as easily in the car though without having to remove it.
