I think my grand am's went out at like 95k. Weird thing is it still sounded fine during prime. During that time the gm dealers had a special where if they did things like water pumps, brakes, and ect. You had a lifetime warranty on it. No questions ask, and you didn't pay for anything..
As for prime. My car can sit overnight and its a key tapper like my olds 307. Other times that bitch will start and forget witch spark plugs is supposed to be firing.

Well, I drove a good 20 miles and then I gunned it to pass a car while going up a steep hill and that's when it died. I think the low fuel and sudden thrust forward sloshed the remaining fuel away from the pump and allowed it to suck up whatever grimy residue was there at the time. It stalled out as if I was out of gas and I' pulled over to a level area where it restarted without issue. Then when I started back up the hill it choked out again and limped just far enough that I was able to safely pull over. Then she died...

Well.... bad news.
At ryans (fisdads) to drop off some cash to him for some of the parts I have sold for him. And I hop in my car to leave... I hear fuel pump prime normal at the beginning then made an unusal groan for the rest of the prime. Start car and it dies. Try to restart and when I try to let pump prime. Not a sound. So sad to say but my stock pump lasted me 203,xxx miles... Now im stuck staying the night here at his place till we get it fixed. Sigh. I dont mind staying the night. Just wish this didnt happen yet.

Wow...what are the odds that we'd be discussing it and then yours would suddenly go out? That's gotta sting a little especially since it looks like yours might have lasted longer than most. I honestly feel bad for you and I'm amazed at the irony of this whole situation. I hope you can get it replaced quickly.

Yeah, but if there is an open or high resistance in the pump circuit, the new pump won't work, either.

200k miles of vibration and exposure to moisture, salt, etc. The light trucks in the late 90s/early 00s had frequent failures in and around the harness connector to the pump -- many Delphi service replacement pumps come with a different connector that must be installed to the harness. Blazers were particularly bad about it. It is, however, more than likely the pump in this application. I have never personally found this particular problem on an N car. The relays sometimes fail, however - just swap for the foglight relay to check.

Well good news. Got my walbro pump from MMS today. And modified stock pump assembly to house the walbro pump. Put everything in. Car runs great.
I cant complain. 203k miles on stock pump is awesome.

Yeah, for OEM parts (AC Delco etc) sometimes the auto parts store is just expensive or even more. The generic/aftermarket brands are usually cheaper, but they aren't always available for certain parts, or they aren't always good enough quality that they are desirable.

The pump on my 99 started to die at 98K while i was driving through Pennsylvania. I made it all the way to my friends in Wisconsin before i changed it. It was very difficult to accelerate but i was able to bump up the speed with the cruise control.
It looks like a access hole for the pump would have to go under the rear seat. I would feel a lot better if i could carry a spare pump around for easy swapping on a trip. Maybe i am just paranoid after having the pump go bad on a trip but i like to keep my car dependable so there is no first time it leaves me stranded. I guess that is a lot to ask from a car that is 15 years old. |

219k and still going strong. I did have to replace the fuel sending unit, but the pump is still original..... *knock on wood*
