Getting the car on a lift tomorrow and going to check out the drive shaft and rear end. Going to see if the driveshaft has a dent in it that potentially could cause a problem. Also going to pop the diff cover off to see what's going on in the rear end and obviously replace this leaking gasket.
DO 4.11 GEARS!!!!! You won't be sorry!!! It's not leaking, it's CRYING OUT FOR GEARZ!!!
i went from 2.92 to a 3.70 on my auto and it friggin pulls! shaved .6 off the e/t with that mod only, and trans tune.

I've been reading up on them for the past few hours. And you bet your ass gears went high to the top of the list. And I'm kind of kicking myself for not having put them towards the top of the list a long time ago.

I'd stay away from Toyota's. Not as great as everyone thinks they are, and boring as hell. Honda's are good, but also resale value is high because of demand, so you'll pay more. Toyota's are kind of the same.

Have you looked at Mazda? They are very reliable/efficient as well, but a heck of a lot more fun to drive. A used Mazda3 2.5 S is on my short list of next cars I'm considering for a daily driver.

No.

With ANY of these hondas, if they are near or over 100k, ask about the timing belt. That is the only concern with these cars and they need to be swapped every 100k miles, just like the LIM gaskets on the LA1s.

I see frequent wheel bearing failures on 3s; these are the press fit/snap ring type common to Japanese cars (the same style as Hondas). This should not be a deterrent from purchase, just an observation. They also use annoying stretch-fit belts, although this will probably become commonplace among all manufacturers (the latest GM LS engines use stretch fit AC compressor belts). I see very few late model Mazdas for non-maintenance items otherwise; perhaps they don't break, or perhaps my customer base just doesn't drive Mazdas beyond the warranty period. I find the newer ones very fun to drive (particularly fancier 3s!) and the brand new ones are very good looking cars.

Anything other then an ST is worthless.

Fiesta ST is the best bang for your buck on the market for what you get. People can bash it all you want, I could care less.

If you're actually interested, depending on your down payment/trade in, monthly payments on a lease or financing can be anywhere from $170-$270 a month.
