So explain this, you're too poor to mod a GA because of college but you can buy a newer car perfectly fine.

Pic from late Saterday afternoon, finally came time to change the oil. 4K in over six months? Yeah, I don't drive much anymore.

I use full synthetic, so the oil can take the short trip beatings. But the local Advanced goofed their prices, and I got the better Castrol synthetic for a dollar cheaper a quart.

It's the Castrol Edge stuff, says it's good for 15K or one year, whichever comes first. I'd say that's perfect oil for my driving habits.

My car died on me all the time. The car left me stranded at the worst times so i got a loan from my parents. And i pay them the day i graduate in less than 2 years. Say all the weed comments you want i just wanted a reliable car that gets me places.

When most people think is sad the fact that everyone is gettin' rid of their GAs, I feel proud that i still have mine and that I've gotten this far with it..
I like when people complement the car saying they have never seing a GA like mine...
When other people are getting rid of their GA, Im here making mine UNIQUE.

Not everybody wants to keep a troublesome money pit. That's why I got rid of mine. If yours isn't giving you a hassle, then enjoy it while you can.

You'll understand once the car gets to a point where you are sick of fixing dumb crap and want something newer and trouble free.

All cars start to fall apart chaos. You are just dodging a bullet for a couple months/years. Give it time. Everyone elses newer cars will start having big ussues to. Take care of it and it will tale care of you.

People think new cars are better. Imo. Stick to what you have. Its cheaper and if done right you CAN make it last.

I.e - well my so and so car is broken. Gonna cost 1500 to get it running right. I guess ill buy myself a 15-20k car and save money.

You are spending money on a car that costs 5x as much as a repair to the current car. Thats not saving money.

Reliability is a factor, emissions tests are a factor. I got rid of my Grand Am because I was tired of fixing it. I was tired of it eating cats, it was starting to eat coolant again plus numerous other things.

In NYS, check engine light = no inspection. No inspection = can't renew registration. Expired registration = cop magnet.

My Grand Am needed repairs in just one year of me owning it, the cat clogged, the LIM crapped out and a lifter broke. I never neglected that car and it still went to hell.

My Honda has never cost me more than fuel, oil changes and a cabin filter in the first year of owning it. I'll take my car payments and knowing I have a car that won't break down on me over a crapbox constantly falling apart. Plus, if you have a good job, the car payments should be an issue to begin with, not to mention all it does is up your credit score when you pay on time or make payments in advance.

Ive been stranded twice 2 since last saturday. Thankfully last saturday i signed up for AAA plus and have gotten towed twice.. Already in the profit from not paying tows. The problem in my situation is most likely the fuel pump is dying. Yet im trading the car in tomorrow bight. I need the car to start and make it to the dealer. Ill look at the car more tomorrow and figure our a solution. Not looking forward to putting money into a car that has sold basically

I get that you think this isnt me saving money. Which you are correct about, but my parents see this **** box(i love the car but its falling apart) and i neef reliability , i drive my csr everyday i work 7 shifts 6 days a week. During day shifts i mainly am cooking and not driving much but i need the car and the grand am simply wasnt holding up for me . Im looking into the future with s better car. It needed to be done if you saw it from my viewpoint. After trade in i paid 11k about for a 2012 civic with 21k miles.

Ive spent so much in parts on this car. Its not normal wear and tear or anything , there will always be haters and doubters about others choices thats their business. From my standpoint i made s good decision and i dont regret it at all. I love my grand sm and it was great to me. The decision came down to reliability and honda and toyota offer the best. Yes you can say any car will be just as reliable if you take care of it. But when things go wrong weekly,, then thats a different story.

Last rant. Alsp when a CAR affects me working its time for a change. When my car was down last week since i deliver pizzas i couldnt work at all until yesterday. So yeah when the car costs me about $700 easily in tips/hourly. And its not the first time ive been screwed it died on countless shifts and its time to move on. Thats all i have to say about that. Im excited for the new car and ready to move on. Grand am will always be missed i loved this car and the community of gagt.com. Even though we didnt always get along you helped me with countless problems. Thanks for all the advice guys!
