Also I have well water here. All is fine as long as you do a good detail after a wash. Have never heard of any kind of water hurting paint other then rust.
I'm not worried about it hurting the paint, I don't want to leave some residue on the paint and that potentially cause a problem while I do the correction. Or wash my cars all together.

Or should I say, seems very counter productive to spend all that time washing the car only to have to detail spray and wipe every inch of the car once more.

I know that I actually don't even use QD anymore. Even if my car sits and gets dust on it. Even with the lightest layer of dust I don't trust QD to remove it "safely." If it doesn't rain for a few days I'll just rinse the car off with a good shower of water and then dry it.

Been working very well so far.

The residue left behind some hard water will be easily cleaned up during a paint correction. Dont worry about it. As long as you wash the car in the shade and dry it with a chamois clothe you will be fine and wont see the residue. Its the direct sunlight that will dry the water quickly and leave the water residue behind.

Been awhile since I've been on here. I joined the plastidip craze and did my rims. Turned out nicely and thought I'd post here since the car was nice and clean as well. The car needs a drop, but I just dont have the extra cash for that right now.

Finally, on the pads. What is a good way to clean the pads? I've seen $15 brushes and sprays that say they work. I have no idea. What would you guys recommend? I plan on buying the M105 and M205 from my local store. Have buckets, grit guard, tape.....

Final question, I have just a basic clay bar kit. Should I look into one that's of more quality? Or can I just use quick detailer and this clay bar?

Edit: For reference. http://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-va...her-69924.html

Plus there is a 20% coupon.
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT getting the HF polisher. yes its cheap, but I promise it wont have the reliability that the PC has. plus I don't know if it will give you the results the PC will. granted it might, but it might not. cheapest I can find a PC for is $109 on amazon, I highly recommend spending the extra cash. I promise you wont regret it.

http://www.amazon.com/PORTER-CABLE-7...ter+cable+7424

I too just clean my pads out with dish soap. I've used simple green too, but it doesn't work as well, and its more expensive. you really don't need anything to clean the pads with. the only thing that sucks is drying time is a few hours when the pads are wet.

basic claybar kit is fine. Megs or mothers, doesn't really matter which.

and as far as hard water goes it doesn't matter. I too have hard water and as long as you don't let the water dry on the car its not a problem.

I'll keep my eyes open for one then. It'll probably be the last thing I buy. I don't want to spend too much on one for the sole reason of I don't know how much use it'll get.

But I most everything picked out already, mostly help from Mac. I just need to start buying.

Detailed a 2011 Civic sedan today. Simple wash, clay, wax and interior cleanup. Such an easy $110.

You know what I don't miss? Having a black car. The Civic came out fantastic. Girl tipped me an extra. $20.

She's cute, but taken. She's a cousin of a friend of mine, as I was posting these on my FB (I always show progress of detail jobs I do on there) my buddy tagged her in the second pic I uploaded so she could see. Said in her info she was with a guy already, plus I'm happy with Jess. Don't need to be a douche and screw up my +3 year relationship with her.

But, the key thing here. Is you looked into her being single/taken, and actually thought about dating her......

Ummm...I never actually did. Just because I'm curious about the girl doesn't mean I wanted a relationship.

Geez, I'm not some horny teenage male.

i also recommend you go for the Porter Cable. you'll hate yourself in the future for not spending a little more. harbor freight is ok for hand tools, but stay away from their power tools... some of the best advice my dad has given, i still had to learn the hard way

hard water is only a problem if you let it dry on the car and make water spots. water spots come off with QD if you get stuck in the sun tho.

like the others have said, you don't have to use QD as clay bar lubricant. i have an old butter container i put some car soap and water in. that's my clay bar lube.

Chaos, nice job.

and the black rims on that mustang look good. drop it now!

well now that were done talking about who were going to try to hump next, I'd like to give some props.

I don't post on here to have the cleanest car, or to show off. I post on here to hopefully help people learn how to do detail correctly. I don't know how much I've really helped people, but I'll tell you this. its really nice to see people give correct detailing info out to someone getting into detailing. hats off to both Mac and Grudge for good information great job guys. its nice to see that if I miss something you guys can pick up the slack. rep points for both.

also great job on the civic chaos. it looks about a good as a civic can look.

Edit: apparently ivr given both of you rep points recently so o have to "spread rhe rep around" rep points coming im the future though

Thanks metallman! Your advise has helped me multiple times and I listen to detailing podcasts all day at work and watch YouTube videos everyday at home. I have also detailed a few cars now. So I try to spread the information that I am learning to others.

On another note...I know many of you do not like Larry "AMMO", but his podcasts have been very informative and entertaining. He often times has other elite detailer on his podcasts and they discuss specific detailing topics. I would highly recommend anyone interested in the detailing topic to listen.

Thanks, guys. I thought about getting a porter cable, but just getting people to do a simple wash, clay, wax and interior clean these days is tough as it is. I'm used to doing it by hand anyway.
