I've never had the auto subframe out so not sure what all is different but hopefully will have drivetrain and subframe out mid this week! any advice on installing the clutch pedal?? really don't want to rip the dash out

surprisingly I wasn't hungover after a bachelor party last night so found some time to work on the car

You shouldn't have to pull the dash out, Milzy installed my clutch pedal with motor out of car, and dash still in the car.

Basically, how the interior of your car is now, is all that Milzy removed in my car for the interior work for the 6 speed swap.

good to know, guessing it will just be a tight squeeze to get it in.... perhaps I should see if I can get a smaller buddy to swing by to toss it in haha

today's progress... busy Wednesday so going to try and get the drivetrain out tomorrow after work

Lol that's roomy compared to my mechanics garage.... he only has 8' ceilings and it's about 12' wide .... he's done 2 motor swaps for me in there and a bunch of other stuff too! You should see him doing a rear end on a lifted Sierra lmao! Barely fits in there to begin with then up on Jack stands it's pushing the roof up

Looks like some good progress Mike! Can't wait to see it when you're done

Its a REALLY tight squeeze for the clutch pedal. I'm 5'5" and 120lbs and I just pulled the dash because the frustration almost drove me crazy! Plus I was building a new dash anyways.

It is much easier with the dash out. 3 bolts for the clutch pedal bracket and the top one is about level with the air vents to give you an idea of how far up you'd have to reach to get it in there.

12 feet!?!? **** that be nice, I'm not even 10' wide my trucks not fun in the garage with a 3.5/4" lift... after the car trucks getting a solid axle swap and will be sitting around 10"s of lift with 35s

extremely tight

and infront of the car isn't much better been debating on turning my L bench just into the back wall but I love the space I have on top.... decisions decisions

I'm 6'4" and 220lbs so should be fun haha I remember how frustrated I got ripping the Alero dash out of the parts car so guess I'll see what's worse and decide if I should pull or not

didn't work on it as much as I wanted but more progress, pretty much only thing holding me back from yanking it is the damn exhaust! can't get those bolts to budge so might just chop the DP and install my headers at the same time....

and I might need some tie rods

goodbye 3400/slugomatic

going to strap the subframe to the cherry picker and wheel it out of the garage to degrease the rest of the engine bay

slow progress is still good progress right? got the engine bay cleaned up a bit and subframe out

3rd pedal and shifter/cables are in... highly recommended removing PCM and holder to install this with the dash still in the car

shift cables use the same hole as the automatic shift cable

only hole that needed to be drilled(1.25") yes I know it's slightly off, fixed that quick with the die grinder

got my J-body poly trans insert and control arm bushings as well.... all said and done these $75ish bushings cost me $140 thanks to shipping and border fee's

Think you might be one of the last people doing a manual swap on an N body. Keep doing it right man!

I've been thinking about doing this swap.... Found a complete getrag 282 from a 91 cavalier with a centerforce clutch with only 150k km for $500... i have a 5 speed ld9 at home for parts as well.... just not sure i want to tackle this job ....

Mike your work looks awesome man! Can't wait to see this in person when you're done

I think those would look great in bronze or gold. Would look similar to volks and other mag style wheels in those colors, and those colors go great and black or white cars.
right on!

thanks guys

Tim you might want to look at a different clutch for that trans if you end up getting it, I had the same one on my 90Z24

was a decent clutch but there was something that had clearance issue's so CF made them slightly different then there normal dual friction clutches and they didn't perform as well in the older 2.8/3.1s and that transmission is more then likely a cable driven speedometer....

Good to know Mike! It was just a thought especially at that price.... I'm all for a bargain but not if it'll cost more in the long run which i have heard with those transmissions so I'll probably stick with the auto

not much of a bargain in my eyes I think i sold that clutch, trans, shift cables, axles etc for $250-300 when I parted the car out

was my 1st car and 2-3 transmission went in it but I also learned to drive stick on it and beat the **** out of it haha still miss it some days minus the body kit I put on

Nice to see this project still moving. Especially when there's practically nothing left going on with this chassis.
