a buddy swung by my place on his way to the track last night to drop off a LX5 TB and adapter plate he made, also got my CAI the other day
since the LX5 TB has vac lines on it, saves me from drilling/tapping my UIM![]() LX5 vs 3400 ![]() had a little fire with the rear mount ![]() and beat the metal ring out of it, ready for the poly insert now ![]() didn't want to cut/extend my CTS so I opened up my injector harness to get the wires out and reroute it, CTS and MAP sensor share a wire so pulled the MAP plug with it ![]() got most of the wiring hooked back up and buddy who dropped off my LX5 parts copied my LX9/5spd tuned PCM and is going to flash the tune to my PCM(HP Tuned PCM I bought had a different service # then my 2003) having a issue with getting the axle stubs out of my LSD trans, when I had the engine/trans sitting on the floor they were moving on me as I tried to pry it out so thought having the drivetrain bolted in would help but I still can't get them to budge :S buddy I bought it from mentioned they are a lot tighter with the LSD but never expected this ![]() |

No. As you can see, it requires an adapter plate. And at that point you may as well get the uim/lim ported along with the uim to inlet air from a 65mm throttle body. Or it will just restrict it. 65mm isnt really worth it without a ported uim inlet.

do a google search for "OBX stuck axle" and you will see why
in frustration I give up for now.... Went and bought a larger pickle fork today to fit around the axle and hammer it out but nothing, going to jack the car up higher to try and get more swinging room with the sledge/pickle fork and I have roughly a 4' pry bar to try out once it's highertrying to get these out, thought the previous owner left them in to help with fluid spillage but now I'm thinking he couldn't get his axles out ![]() You need to buy or make an adapter plate which is pictured above and need to modify the throttle linkage bracket was shocked to see my 3400 CAI fit perfectly with the LX9, and LX5 TB/adapter ![]() Last edited by _HeC_; 10-16-2014 at 08:16 PM. |

the 3500 UIM is already matched for 65mm unless hes looking to toss the LX5 TB on a 3400? then ya porting would need to be done as well as adapter plate

Did you try using a slide hammer? Pry bars don't work very well for getting axles out, even on stock tranny's. You need a sharp sudden impact to expand the C-clip in the hole and get it out of the notch in the axle splines. I've done it with a pry bar and long screw driver on my 4T45 and it was a bitch to get out, but when I had access to a slide hammer that popped them right out easily. If you aren't prying evenly on both sides the axle wants to bind in the hole as well from sideways pressure. The slide hammer puts the force directly behind it and pull it straight outward.

Don't own one but only 1 I can find locally I don't think any of the attachments would work, the 3 jaw maybe but I feel like it has nothing to hold on to... I've got tons of axles out with pry bars, I know not the best way but usually pops out
http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/P...-Kit/8309262.p Might still grab it and try and make my own piece for the end with some steal and my mig |

Yeah, making your own piece might be a good idea. The one I used, my dad brought it home from the GM dealer he worked at, so I don't know if it was a special part for working on GM cars or a custom piece. Didn't look custom made though, it just looked like it would be good for any CV axle fwd car.
It had an "L" shaped attachment on it, and the bottom of the L (perpendicular to the slide) had a U-shaped slot cut in it and was fairly thin so that it could fit between the inner CV and trans case and would slide in right on either side of the shaft. edit: I really wonder why it's so tight though. I wonder if the slot on the inside wasn't machined properly or something making the snap ring too tight? There is a chamfer machined in the slot on the axles to give the ring a bit of a ramp to slide on when it's pushed out, but the inner slot inside the trans has to be deep enough to allow the ring to expand as well (without too much force).
