I think I missed this but see it brought up almost every chance possible

had some cracks to fix on the front lip

quick plastic weld to hold it together while I worked the backside

once the back was good I grinded the front cracks out farther and deeper and applied a proper plastic sandable epoxy

finally got it into primer and I need to touch up a spot here and there still but hopefully have it and my mirrors on by next weekend

rear lip should be a interesting fix

I searched for the thread for a good chuckle too I'm sure we have all done our fair share of stupid moments in the garage though

Calipers came from a Mazda mechanic(Kijiji ad). Rich dude brought in a pretty bad ass 99 vette for a brake upgrade and told the mechanic that his old calipers were garbage to him and keep them if he wants! So I got all 4 for $100 CDN!!! Cheapest big brake upgrade? Car only had like 60,000kms(37K Miles) on it hence the mint calipers

Great price on those brakes. I've been eyeballing a set of rears to upgrade to. Best price i managed to find was $90 and that's only for the rears. Not in a rush for those at the moment though.

FB wasn't grand am specific or anything, just a 519 cars club for my area

Tim if you find anymore GXP rears for $50 shoot me a txt! need those brackets for the rear of my car

checked out a couple junkyards after work today and FINALLY found a 5spd grand am for its shift boot!

Doesn't seem like much but I hated how my interior looked with the Alero shift boot just kind of floating around the shifter, might go back and grab more spare 5spd parts for myself or perhaps for resale also grabbed some 98+ F-body calipers for its brackets

I'm in a bit of a pickle as well, think a buddy from work wants my 18s and I was thinking about grabbing some crown vic/grand marquis HPP wheels for a temp setup. 16x7 and reading mixed reviews on +0 or +4.6 offset but Corvette calipers won't clear 16s. Anyone grind the ribs off the vette calipers before?

going by some calculations from my 18x8 +38s the crown vic/marquis rims would sit 50.7mm further away from the strut and will poke out 25.3mm more then the 18s or 46.1mm/20.7mm if it was a 4.6+ offset

Those wheels would look sick on a bagged GA.

Also, dont think anyone has grinded the ribs off, probably wont give you that much clearance. But may be just enough to fit.

geldartb has made plenty of valid pointsgeldartb has made plenty of valid points
if you are grinding the ribs off you might as well run the f-body calipers since they are the same thing minus the ribs.

not true.

-Pressure cast vs gravity casting
-more ribs(top/bottom)
-thicker in some spots
-slightly different design/construction making them more rigid
-they actually have a smaller piston(40mm vs 44mm) but C5 pistons are double the thickness it looks like
-LS1 people are saying F-body calipers will spread under excessive hard braking and C5s hold up under same conditions

and last but not least I really want the Corvette writing, want people to be like wtf when they notice it

did some reading last night if you couldn't tell couple pics for comparison
