Special Tool for "Tuner Lugs"?

Here is my predicament:

Front wheel lugs go on dandy.

Rear ones, the lugs themselves seem to protrude further, which causes the lug nut to not be able to be as secure as I would like it. My little hex head fitting that goes inside of the lug nut cant get into the rear ones once they are tightned a bit. Any suggestions? Something needs to fit in there, but still not hit the lug.

can you take a pic, it will be easier for us to conceptualize.

As for now, all I can say is...I've never seen tuner lugs work effectively

no ECAP, tuner lugs are like a long cylinder (no shank or "step in")..at the end where the threads start it is conical (angles in). The interior of the lug is hollow almost all the way through, about 3/4 of the lug is threads, the other 1/4 is a inlet where a key fits to tighten them down.

Remember, he has a SE (that has drum brakes).

If the lug nuts does not go down all the way...don't use it. You will wreck the stud's threads if you try to torque/tighten it.

I had a similar problem with my steel winter wheels & McGard wheel lock nuts.

The rear wheel studs do seem longer than the front ones on my SE.

Do a rear disc brake conversion, that should solve the problem.

Seriously Dave, I would go back to the stock lugs for now. Maybe try some different style lugs latter. If you're having problems getting the wrench into the rear lugs I'd go to a tire shop and see if maybe they have a similar size bit that's longer. Or maybe you could find one at a NAPA autoparts. I've never heard of this problem before. It's strange that the rear studs would be different length than the front.

Yeah, I'm having trouble thinking of something too. like I suggested, if you can get a pic of it so we can see it that would help. I'm wondering if you can just go to a shorter length lug.

My guess is the drum brakes are causing the fitment issue.

Vaseline should ease the pain.

Seriously, don't let them tell you ANYTHING about needing to actually touch your car. Some type of lug setup, or returning the rims is what you need. No manual labor by a shop!!!!

Just got 8 spline drives for the rear (two short cause I already have two lockers for those spots). They did the trick! Now I just have to replace the lug bolt i busted...

Cool beans man. I got McGuard spline drives and locks for my new wheels too. They look great and I like the rotating bezel seat that keeps them from scratching your wheels. Just need the wheels to get here now...hopefully before saturday...come on UPS, hurry up.

Question

I knew spline drives would do the trick! I have a set in my room right now...What have you guys paid for your spline drives?? My buddy works at Bell Tire and sold me a set of 20 for $35...He said it was a great deal $35 lug nuts is pretty steep to me...but I have seen them for more $$$ than that.....

Looks to me like a simple lug nut with a shank on it. You can get these in about 2-4 different shank lengths, generally.

Example: 0.75 shank length
