Im thinking about doing an I/C also. Ive been looking in Ebay, and found an intercooler that would work pretty good, This isnt the one im buying, but i think this design is easier for us to work with, since we can move the battery and have both pipes coming from the same spot =P
Here is a picture ![]()

And here is a picture of how we should route it, the pipe exiting the supercharger has an elbow that goes down, and the inlet of the manifold should have an elbow that is down and to the right a little, if you are facing the engine, like in the picture.

Sorry to get Off Topic, but Monello, your E/M SC looks different then mine
The part where it connects to the intake manifold is a different setup. Not drastic, but different. Other boost brothers...did E/M change the design for the later models??BTW: I've already talked with someone we all know a while ago about an IC. There is just no way to fit the sucker in there it seems. Unless someone comes out with a new style.

His SC outlet looks the same as mine. It has the same problem too. It's just to close to the intake manifold. You can't fit an elbow on it without getting in front of the manifold inlet. Also, you'd have to turn the elbow down to go under the SC inlet and you'd run into the upper radiator hose and thermostat housing. If you take out the battery, air box, and modify the front radiator shroud, there is plenty of room for the intercooler and piping. That's not the problem. The only way to connect the piping is to cut the inlet and outlet castings and have new ones welded on at different angles. Until someone has the time and the money to do this it's never going to work.
The problem is magnuson designed the kit too tight in order to fit around all the factory equipment (they wanted to sell it to GM). They never intended to move the battery or add an intercooler so they didn't leave enough room. Of course GM didn't pick up the kit anyway. They like the SC to be integrated with the intake manifold like on the GTP's and the sunfire/cavalier kit because it looks cleaner and it's easier to service.

well I plan on a liquid to air unit to reduce distance from the SC to the plenum.
I'm just waiting for the spearco book to come in monello's drawing is pretty much what I plan on. The battery will be moved, custom inlet to the pleunm will be made. And the sc outlet may be shaved to fit everything how I want. If not a very tight angle 90 degree silicone elbow will be used. the battery will be moved to the trunk to mount the IC in its place. the unit I plan on will be 2.5" inlet/outlet or 2.5" inlet 3" outlet. The plumbing will be aluminum tube powdercoated or ceramic coated for heat protection. a front mount heat exchanger will be used and possibly a trunk mount ice/water tank. the intercooler I'm after can add as much as 40% more power, pressure drop is minimal and with less space than an air to air unit would have between the plenum, lag will be minimal.

Well man... is this on the menu for my car? Yes, I am planning on doing this this summer.
Do I have an E/M? Obviously not, but the exhaust port of the centrifugal SC actually allows more clearance, so I'm sure something could be fenagled. I was actually considering doing an air-water right in the engine bay and relocating the battery to the trunk...

You should have much easier (and more efficient) dimensions... I would believe that you would gain more power than E/M guys from the IC, and certainly have the 13's with it. Say, with all the cooling that goes on the IC will make the engine run better, read - "be more powerful, while gaining back more durability..." right? So this will lead to the achilles' heel again, the four five... JOUT

Hey John, just wondering if you're going to be a dealer for Spearco products, because I want to pick up an AWIC... Also, are you going to have some of the necessary parts as well, or are we have to going to find them ourselves? (elbows, couplers, bilge pump, expansion tank, oil cooler (rad. for water) etc.)?
ps You might want to check out Depco Pump Company for pumps... After some quick research on the internet, looks like a good AWIC kit could run around $600

Since there is no room between S/C and TB, why not just hack the top half off of the upper intake manifold and weld on an I/C? Throw a hoodscoop on and you're done!
WRX-style...

but due to crossflow design of the manifold it would be really hard to get an ic there. also that would not be very effictive at cooling.

ok another up date
I ordered the piping, couplers, and T-bolt clamps yesterday. I'm going to have to cut the front of the plenum back to have enough room and weld a pipe to attach to the intercooler. I'm trying to leave the supercharger kit un modded so the intercooler could be removed.
