Exclamation EAGLE 077 OWNERS and future buyers

My saga continued up until this past weekend and I believe it is over now for good. New information.

THE STOCK LUGNUTS WORK PERFECTLY ON THE EAGLE 077 BOLT HOLES!!

My lugs were bottoming out causing the studs to shift a bit in the rotor holes when stopping quickly. The tech showed me the lugs and you could see the wear inside of them. He tested the STOCK lugs for conical shape and width and they work perfectly. Since applying them on Saturday the car immediately drives quieter and smoother.

Thus...this is what you want if you are interested in the Eagle 077's (17" or 18")

Bolt Pattern = 5x114.3 (5x4.5") or 5x115
Hub Rings (ClubGP online) = get these if you buy the 5x114.3 pattern and lightly sand the inner ring so that they will slide on your hub easily.
Lug Nuts = If you want locking/new lugs then trial and error it...but STOCK LUGS are all you need. If you don't want to mess with locking lugs, keep the receipts for the wheels/tires and if they are stolen they will be replaced by insurance (tires will be depreciated upon mileage).

NOTE: I would like to say that by no means is the Eagle 077 a bad wheel. It is a quality wheel (although I would get chrome, polished wheels are a biotch) that looks great. HOWEVER, I must place the blame of my issues on the shop that I bought them from and Eagle Alloys themselves. They were clearly clueless from the beginning as to fitment and lug type, not to mention no advice on hub rings. In the last year since getting into the GA and other cars I have learned everything on my own to fix the issues. Once again....great wheel---idiot people when obtaining them.

I used the 100+ Socket Lugs. And its only really been since Friday, but no problem that I know of. Re-torqued them yesterday.

What signs/symptoms were you getting Bob?

Molson,
When I first got the wheels they sent me tuner lugs. They suck and caused vibration and even a couple fell off. So, I returned to the shop and told them I need the correct bolt pattern. Eagle REFUSED to send me the exact pattern (yes, REFUSED, not blowing that out of proportion because I am disgruntled). Their fix was to send lugncentric lugs.

Well, everything was fine and dandy with them until I had to take them off this winter. One lug was stuck in the bolt hole and sharred off my thread. Not to mention the wheels were always a bitch to put on and take off with no hub rings to center the wheels so that the small offset bolt pattern would somewhat align. Plus the lugs had to go through the bolt holes. Therefore I was grinding threads a bit as well. Add all that together and you'll realize why it was a pain.

I put the wheels back on last weekend for this summer and heard the clunk from the right rear, this is the info in my first post. Seems like the lugs were fine last year because they were new, metal wears over time obviously and this year there wasn't enough metal/friction for those lugs to adhere as well. OK, that probably sounds weird...it's difficult to explain.
But anyway, that is my issue in a very brief outline.

Thanks..

I ask cause I am getting a vibration. I know I have a bad strut mount, and "possible" alignment issues. (I think its still just the strut mount)

But anything over 120 kph (75 mph or so) I get vibes. And it feels like a back tire more, but the wheel does vibrate a bit.

Molson, I was also hearing a wurring noise (like a Huey helicopter) from the right rear, when I got up to highway speed. With the lugs not pressed firmly against the rotor it was most likely the rotor wobbling a tad as it spun.

As soon as you can, I would go out and change back to stock lugs, torque them to 100 ft/lbs. Don't listen to the Eagle clowns saying 80 ft/lbs. From the beginning, IMO, that is way too low for a bolt that is holding your damn wheels to the vehicle!!!!

This is great news for me. I appreciate all of the comments that you have included about this thread. Do you guys think I will be safe driving approx 3,000 miles from California to Maryland on my Eagle 077's 5 on 114.3 bolt pattern? I am going to use my stock lug nuts like AMRAAM4 has suggested. I have been contemplating this issue over and over trying to make the best decision. I am truly concerned about driving across the country and having my wheels viborating or even worse, the wheels falling off!!!!!

If you just installed new wheels, you should re-torque all the lug nuts after driving 50 miles and then again at 100 miles. This applies to both stock and aftermarket alloy wheels. If you keep the lug nuts torqued to 100 ft-lbs, you should be okay.

I just bought a set of eagle 077's, chrome 18". I am having severe vibration about 65 to 80 mph , severe. I've had the wheels and tires balanced twice and they are perfectly in balance, no bent rims, all the tires are worn evenly. I saw that putting the stock lugs back on helped some people as i have not tried that yet, i have tried one set from pfyc.com with locks and one set from the tire shop that has the sleeve that goes inside the rim to help center it, and no help?????? please anyone help me, as i am going to houston on march 1, and would love to be able to have my new rims on!!!! my car is 60 miles away in my dad's garage for the winter and if i tell him what to change he'll do it and trial/error it!!! please help, and thanks in advance for all of you!!!

If you hear a clunk when you first press the the brake pedal, check your lugs. It's the loose wheel slamming into the studs.

If you don't have hubrings that could be it,if the pattern is 5x114.3 you need hubrings.

*begin record*

hubrings from clubGP store. They are specific for the Eagle 077. Put those on and use stock lugnuts. Torque to 100ft/lbs.

*end record*

I have hub rings on, and I'm still getting that. The wheels dont sit to the rotor all the way. Any fixes?

I am currently in the process of picking up a set of 077s, but the size is 18x18.5. I noticed that pfyc sells the 18x18, will that extra .5 make a difference for fitting it onto the grand am?

Do you mean 18x8.5?I think it depends on the offset,I have 18x8.5 wheels with an offset of 35 which I think is the lowest that can go on a GA and they fit without any spacer, but if you go with a higher offset you will most likely need to use a spacer.
A guy also has the same wheels I do,but for some reason he said he had to use a 1/4" spacer to get clearance.I have KYB struts and he has stock struts so that may be why,but not sure.
Hope that helps some!

077's don't come in an 18x8.5, so, whatever site/person is saying so is incorrect.
