SRT-4 neon

ok i have search many forums and haven;t found any info.
What are some of the mod's you can do to one of these besides an apexi turbo timer or blitz turbo times plus the engine managment systems by boths companies.

one of my friends has just gotten one i test drove it and fell in love. its not the best front worth car considering how funny it looks but thats ok its fast.

turbo timer
boost controller
air/fuel controller
change all the plastic plumbing to aluminum plumbing
bigger intercooler
change out the airbox for a cone
probably still somethings you can do on the exhaust like a new downpipe and have a testpipe fitted in for track days...
bore out the throttle body a bit probably...

When is GM going to get their head out of their A$$ and build something this quick and affordable?

From what I read, it's intercooler goes from frame to frame. Can't go larger. The airbox is plumbed into the fenderwell for a CAI.

There is a mist system for forced induction cars that is supposed to work really well for cooling the intake charge. I've seen one on a Syclone. Also some drag radials would help with traction. Messing with the exhaust on a turbo car can be tricky. I knew a guy that put a Flowmaster on a MR2 turbo and lost a few tenths over the stock system, but I've seen other cars do the same and get gains.

When the SRT-4 sells more than their least profitable car in that pricerange, because I'm sure that is Dodge's least profitable car. I'm also pretty sure the SRT-4 won't sell as many as GM's least profitable car in that price range(whatever that is). If it does, GM will react. As of now, GM might only slightly react due to Lutz's influence and GM's desire to look good in the hearts of enthusiasts, but then again concepts and rumors take care of a lot of the enthusiasts' search for power. It's still all about money, and the economy is having problems right now.

I agree, and even if it doesn't sell who cares, in-expensive is the primary reason that the small number of us enthusiasts are pleased to see cars that have killer performance for not alot of $$...

I recall someone saying "what do you want for 20 grand?" when the person was wanting things like a 6-speed for a Grand Am etc... well, here's the answer. Things like this are what we want for 20 Grand!!!

I imagine pretty soon, they HAVE to answer the competition. The days of the generic rental cars are soon to be over. The hot rodded rentals will be here. LOL! (not an stab at GM, I'd still like the GTP etc... even if it was in a rental fleet)

Saturn ION turbo probbably will be their answer to the Neon SRT-4.

Anyway back to topic...

Isn't a boost contoller easy to install? I'll admit that I have never worked on a turbo car. Also does that thing have a factory boost guage?

Yes, it does have an Autometer boost guage. Strangely, the EVO 8 does not have a factory-installed boost guage.

It seems the EVO isn't all what people expected it to be. It's still fast and all, but not as fast as it was expected to be.

WHAT? Not as fast as people expected. If you look at the lastest motor trend you will see a STOCK evo8 running 13.0 @105mph! A 13 flat for 30,000 can you say best bang for the buck

And car and driver got a 14.2 in the 1/4 The thing is so damn inconsistant that many think it missed the mark. I mean come on, the MAF is only for 1 bar and it pushes a lot over 1 bar of boost. WTF is up with that?

NOWHERE has anyone seen a PRODUCTION EVO run a 13.0@105. I have seen 13.5's @97. The neons are testing 13.9-14.2@103-105
The neon is gonna be a force to be reckoned with. and with BPU upgrades it will run mid 12's with a good driver. Sit and Watch GM.

Sit and watch GM retaliate. I agree the Neon SRT is what most people on here have been bitching that they want to own (real performance 6-speed manual for $20,000 vs. "what do you expect for 20,000?") but, I think GM might have an answer here pretty soon.

Look i bought my 03 lightning back in late January. i bought it while we here in Pa were having consistant snow falls and dealer lots were packed with vehicles not being sold. i walked in there and dropped $8000 on the asst. sales managers desk and told him i wanted the blue lightning for $28,500. he declined. next morning i got a phone call from the sales manager (the other guys boss) and told me to come pick up the truck (it was detailed, full of gas and had some neat little luggage sh!t saying SVT on the passenger side floor). to me a FACTORY 13 SECOND TRUCK FOR $28,500 IS BETTER THAN A JAP- SCRAP EVO FOR $30,000! By the way.. it no longer does a 13 sec 1/4 mile. i am not sure what it will do but now it has 587RWHP, due to many mods including a Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger!

Or you could buy a Mustang GT for 24k and spend 6K in mods and blow that thing out the water. There are so many other cars out there that have more bang for the buck then the EVO!

Only downside to the Mustang GT is its a two value, where the cobra 4.6 is a four value.

yeah i hate to say it but they are mainly all fords! the cobra with a little number crunching can be had for 30G's very low 13's from factory on street tires. lightning 13- 14 sec from factory on street tires. even focus SVT 14 sec 1/4 on street tires from factory! there are so many better cars than the evo for the same price or less!

No svt focus is running 14's , RS's yes but, svt's NO and again fords don't have all-wheel drive which is a must if you want all around performance(auto-crossing and such)
