Exclamation Need Help! 18:1 A/F Ratio!

ok, i dyno'd my car again and came out with an 18:1 A/F ratio which is EXTREMELY dangerous. i think the problem is getting worse, the longer i wait. i need your help. i bought the RKSport FPR, which holds 130 psi of fuel, recently and helped out the car a little. i cannot crank up the pressure because my stock fuel pump will burst i need to know a few things...

1) what parts are available that can resolve this?
2) where can i buy them?
3) what is installation like? how to?
4) will this work? this is a fairly new part that i dont believe has been discussed on GAGT.com before...

http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...NDER&AFFIL=gau

ANY help would great. thanks guys

Did you pressure test the fuel pump?

I can bet that its going to die on you, so its pumping out less and less psi.

Or your stock computer is acting WIERD.

This is what i would do, get the fuel pump pressure tested, if that checks out ok, which i doubt, then go to the dyno.

Disconnect the battery, then reconnect after 15mins.

Now go on the dyno, if you AF is totally different then before, your PCM is either messed up or really confused.

INJECTORS?

Higher capacity pump... You have the regulator to manage it right there, should be most helpful if this lean condition persists. If it is your PCM just fubarred, then you should be able to tune the ultralean condiotion out of the PCM... but then you know this man! Of course, verify the A/F on a couple of dynos, and with a wideband 02 sniffing right in the downpipe. That is the most accurate, right in the tailpipe/muffler it will be leaner (but not too much) than precat/closer to the motor.

Out

Can you put the wideband plot on here. First if your intank pump is operating correctly its not going to burst. You will max out your stock injectors (105 psi) before you break it. Turst me. If you can get the plot on here I can help you a lot more. If you have everything on correctly. Here, Get the vacuum line situtation taken care of that I pmed you about. WOuld make you run lean though having it off would just make it think your at wot all the time. Get that fixed. To see if its fixed start the car and see what the psi is at at idle. SHould be around 48-49 with your boosted car. Now take the vaccuum line off the stock FPR and it should go up a bit. If it does that its fine. If it doesn't somethings wrong. If its too low at idle use the dial at the top to bump it up. Now if our still running lean. First get a MSD inline fuel pump. Easy install and cheap. It will make sure your fuel pressure is holding. Now if its still running lean get a small ratio FMU. Maybe like 6:1. ONly about 100 bucks on ebay but don't go high on the ratio since you have a reprogram with the RSM kit. THen if your stillllll running lean with you shouldn't be with the FMU get some injectors. THen you can do S-AFC if your not ready to blow up the car or drive it off a cliff by now.

It may not fix your problem, but getting a new bigger fuel pump can not hurt you. If you have an in-tank pump I'd bet that the Gm universal one will work just fine for you. It works on v6 fieros, berettas, and my friends 2000 blazer, so it's probably the same on a grand am. Just go to your local auto store and ask to see a fuel pump for your car and a 1994 Beretta 3.1 automatic. If they look the same, then the Walbro pumps at that site listed for an '86 Fiero 2.8 will fit your car. I changed my fuel pump on my Beretta in my garage in about 2 hours.

Good luck.

ok i just bought the S-afc for $300 today. i am now going to a new shop that seems to know more about what they're doing (Solid-Technology, for those in New Mexico). i really wish i would've found them earlier. i was chilling at the track one night and had my hood up and the owners walked by and started asking questions about the charger and now they say they can fix the ratio so i'm going to give it a shot
things are looking good now

I can't say I like the way Speedlab talked to me when I was at the Dyno Edge. He claimed he could get a cam blank for the gen III motors, I told him good luck.

It's got a knock sensor monitor, can be tuned 250% more percisely, password protection, warning features and a couple more safe guards. All of which were not on the old model. But yeah, I guess they're exactly the same. Or not at all actually. The second one would be very worth returning the first one if you consider you can get the new one for the same amount of money. That knock sensor is priceless for a car that has added forced induction.

yeah, i cant return it now cause it's been ordered already. although that does look sweet. all i'm worried about right now is getting the lean problem fixed fast. a knock sensor too? i really wish i would've seen that a couple days ago
thanks to everyone for helping me find the right parts. after this i wanna do some RC injectors, MSD fuel pump, spark plugs, and MSD ignition to follow up

ok i finally got the pics onto the computer (been acting weird lately) i really like what i'm seeing. i really cant believe that this part is in my car now. it lets you monitor everything. throttle %, RPM, boost, etc. it will show you line graphs, digital gauges, percentages. i havent really seen the half of it. you can tune everything in your car using this. i'm not going to mess with the settings till i take it to the dyno. when i got to the shop, they were just finishing it up. the guy showed me how it works too. all i can say is WOW
i still need to mount it, but was it worth the $300? yes!
i wanted to have it put in the glove box, but after seeing all the read outs and graphs... it's gonna be mounted on top of the little cubby hole at an angle
here is the unit
