what grade oil do you reccomend? 10-30 or 5-30?

I wanna change the oil in my GT, but I want to know what kind the pros are using, for I wanna roll with the big dogs, even if i don't have but an exhaust and a filter so far, I already changed the tranny fluid, by flushing it, My thing is what kind of oil shall I use for the engine? (I know this is as n00b of a question as I can get) I did a search and didn't find any one talking about this... so I am asking ya, I would greatly appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction, thanx.

GM recommends 5W-30, so that's what I use (Mobil 1 also).

If that doesn't work, Wally World has the 5 qt. SS jugs for $18.88, so you end up getting a quart for $3.77. Sam's Club also has the cases which comes to about $3.89 a quart.

Yep.

M1 5W-30 here too, and I also use the Mobil 1 filter.

The local Walmart seems to have made a permanent spot for them. They used to come and go in about a week. If they have them tonight when I go, that will make about a month solid. They were $17.88 last year though.

I have enough to last me for awhile. I have 4 of the 5QT jugs at home . I use the extra half a quart to pour through after draining the oil.

5w30 Mobil 1

A little story for you all.

On my 93 Saturn it would burn oil like crazy. At the time I used 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer. I noticed the cap saying 5w30 was the recommended weight, so I started using that during the winter/summer time.

Before I switched in the summer time I had to add two quarts every 2 months. When I switched to the 5w30 I put in about 1 quart every 2-2.5 months.

It's recommended to use the 5w30 so I would do that

If they're charging you $10 for an oil change, I hope that doesn't include oil and filter.

If it does, I'd hate to see what brand they are using.

yes oil and filter. and there is no way you are going to tell a difference using a more expensive oil vs a less expensive oil. no way
edit: by the way, its a fram oil filter

Not all oil is created equal. I prefer not to put $1 per QT oil in a $20,000 car.

...and you should do some searching here and on the Internet on Fram Oil Filters. Probably the worst oil filter you can buy - as evidenced by the price. You get what you pay for.

I'll chime in on this. I use Valvoline 5W-30. I also usually run a Fram filter. I have ran AC a few times, but mostly Fram. The car has ~115000 miles on it w/no oil burning etc. It runs as strong as ever.

demand has an inverse relationship between price and quantity, while supply has a direct relationship

You can't read a graph.

Your first post about "economics" you said that Fram filters are cheap because of high demand. You said nothing about supply (AKA Quantity).

Quote:
and as you move farther down the x axis, price is decreasing and demand is increasing
You are right about one part, and wrong about another.

As you move down the graph on the X axis, the price is decreasing as quantity increases, BUT, as you move down the graph on the X axis, demand is decreasing - not increasing as you said. Notice the downslope of the demand curve - demand is dropping. As you move further along the X axis, the demand curve slopes down.

If you follow the demand curve upward (back towards X=0), price increases. Which is opposite the claim that you made stating that as demand increases, price goes down.

Fram floods the market with their filters, offers them at low prices, gets their filters on the shelves of discount stores everywhere. A lot of Quantity decreases price - A lot of demand increases price - as seen on the graph.

When demand for an item is high, people are willing to pay more for it. Which forces up the price.
