Sub selection help

Im looking into getting new subs to replace my 2 12" Rockford punch HX2's. Im looking for an install that will be loud and have good sound quality. Id like a deeper bass then what im getting now. If possible id like to go 2 15's ported or 2 12's ported and still have some good sound quality. I dont know if this is possible in my 2001 grand am gt. Also my current setup with my 2 12's cracked my spoiler where it mounts to the trunk and was wondering how to fix this for my new install. So basically im asking what subs will be significantly louder then my HX2's and still have good sound quality? Id also would appreciate some box designs that will work with an Alpine MRD-M1000 amp for the subs and a MRV-F340 amp for my speakers. My last question is if anyone has any idea how to fix my spoiler so that it doesnt crack again once i get it repaired?

You have alot of options. How much do you intend to spend? Is that alpine mrd-m1000 one ohm stable?

As far as your spoiler goes. Im facing my subs forward and building a dividing wall between the trunk and cabin. It is cutting down on the trunk vibrations alot. Dynamat or one of the cheaper substitutes will also help. You could also try a MDF cover for your trunk lid, I've heard it helps some.

What is your budget?? You could do a single 9515 Digital Designs, through as much power to it as you have.......tune the box to 36Hz and damn, you won't know what hit you!!!

I always hear of people breaking their spoiler and everything else, but what I don't understand is how (cross my fingers) I have not broken anything yet. I am running 2500 watts rms (Planet Audio 2500D @ 14.7v) to each speaker (9512 Digital Designs) and I am hitting 153.6dB. I have them facing towards the rear and I have not broken anything...........the only thing that I have replaced is my windshield because it started to bubble out at the seams.

Money is not a big thing to me. Ill save up enough money until i get something that i will like. No the alpine MRD-M1000 is not 1 ohm stable should I think about a different amp? Whats the site for the 9515 so i can look at specs and such? how does your two twelves sound? Is it possible to fit 2 15" 9515's ported? Any suggestions on box designs and amp placement?

If you want 2 15's, you are going to have to have a HUGE box. I am running 4.75 cubic feet PER speaker in my car. I have started to build my partial wall for the backseat. Take a look at http://www.streetsourcemag.com/IM/vi...le=2&ID=Biggie to see some pictures of the size of this sub!! I was running 2-3012 DD's before (lowest series) and I was hitting 153.6dB all day!! DD currently holds the world record for a single 10" 170.6dB

DD is supposed to be very good. Adire Audio also makes some excellent drivers. Check out the shiva and brahma series drivers (with well over 2" of LINEAR throw the Brahma's really kick azz, if my wife would let me spend that much money, I'd have 2-12" Brahma's myself )

I will be working on my box this weekend. I am not doing anything special right now, I just want it done for indy. Once Indy is over, I will be doing all fiberglass.........put here is a pic of what I received in the mail yesterday!!!

They will be residing where the backseat used to be...........nothing like a sub that can handle 3,000 wrms......but I will only be pushing 2716 wrms to each

those subs are cool and all, but do they fit the sound quality bill as well? they look and sound like awesome SPL machines.

i know ill get bashed for this, but i must make my recommendation, the 13w7 JL audio sub. give it 1000-2000 watts in a ported box, and youll get both SPL and SQ.

I have heard about the 13w7. But if i were to do that i would probably get the brahma because its cheaper and still performs very well. Im thinking about doing 2 12" brahmas and porting them. I wanna know tho will this give me good sound quality and spl?n Thanks for all the help so far.

Digital Designs have great sound quality, and with a little turn of the bass knob............you will be seeing double!

The W7 is amazing, though I think the 13W6v2 is a better deal. Also, the big W3's (15 and 18) are awesome woofers.

My luck with Adire hasn't been great, though they do have a good reputation in general.

Evo makes some great stuff for the cash, worth a look.

DD's are awesome, although I think their days of near supremacy are over, other manufacturers are doing as well or better these days, and DD keeps getting more expensive. Last I heard, that CVCC was stuck in the 160's with his single 10 (not that that's a BAD thing with one 10, ) and hit 170 with a single 15 and a Viper 2500d to each coil. Still, awesome subs.

Nobody has mentioned ID Max or Treo Engineering. The ID's will hang with the W7's for 2/3 the price, both SQ and SPL. Treo is the current world record holder for SPL, 176 Db with 16 12's, nobody else is even CLOSE. That was their CSX series, the SS and SSX do nearly the same SPL but with smaller boxes and awesome SPL. The SS 15's only want 2.5 ft^3 PORTED, which is RIDICULOUSLY small for a 15. I did a Dakota x-cab with 2 of those in a ported downfire box in the cab, an Xtant A6001 to each, pulled 154's. And it needs more tuning, the system wasn't done.

If it was me, it'd be a single 13W6v2 in a ported box with a 500/1. Not a huge box, shopuld pull 140's, and near unbeatable SQ.

Any of the above mentioned will do an awesome job. In the realm of super-woofers, it's all a matter of preference and price.

If you have a local dealer that you trust, JL's W7 or W6v2 would do a great job. And you could most likely keep your amp.

With brahma's dual 2 ohm coils, you'll probably need to get a different amp. The only way to get a two ohm load is with two of them, and I doubt that amp's enough for two brahma's. The Shiva would be a better choice if you wanted to keep your amp.

I had no idea that those Treo SS's had such a small Q. That's a wildly small box for a 15!

yea i had treo subs( 12" ss series) and they do rock, just too loud for my taste. i liek my dual 10w6v2s a little better cus they have better SQ. i also went from MTX 2300x to a JL 500/1, so that can also account for the imporved SQ, plus i went from kenwood excelon to Alpine.

Thou must find thee a dealer in your area. I just checked and the dealer locator button on their site ain't workin'. Too bad....

Um, call around, ask local shops if they know where to find them. Don't say your looking for them - you'll get a sales pitch. Say you have an SS 12 or something and need it warrantied, they'll likely be more helpful.
