Alpine 7998

Does anyone have this deck, or know if it is any good. I can't decide between this deck and the pioneer 940MP, i have always been a pioneer fan, but if the music is gonna sound better with the alpine, they are basically the same price. Thanks for the input.

alpine, no doubt, sounds awesome. Go to any car audio forum and alpine/eclipse will be the names you see for nice decks that don't cost a fortune.

Go with the Alpine, GREAT cd player.............I have always had problems with other brands, alpine seem to hold up rather nice.

Really, i have a buddy that works at an alpine dealer and his deck was overheating or something...? Thats what makes me wonder if i should get an alpine, i don't know the s/n ratio of the pioneer but the alpine has a great s/n ratio. Anyone have a other suggestions for like 550-600 on ebay, i couldn't find any eclipse decks in that price range.

some of the alpine decks have very high power internal amps which makes them get a bit hot, although I haven't heard of them overheating. The 7998 has no internal amps, it was designed for people who want good sound quality so it just has 3 high quality pre-outs. I can't imagine it would get very hot without any internal amps running. I have the 7894, and have the internal amp turned off. I have played it for hours straight and never had any problems.

Thanks guys, im gonna try and find a place that has the pioneer on display, i really love that deck, but the alpine is SO tempting, plus with what you guys say, it makes me want to get it, i have always had pioneer decks and i guess im just partial to them, maybe its time to change. Plus if i don't like it, i can always sell it and get the pioneer, but the pioneer does have really nice 6 Volt preouts, but i do have a pheonix gold tld66 line driver sitting right here if i need it. .

Thanks man, yea, both decks are gonna be somewhere in the neighborhood of 600. The cheapest i found the alpine for was 529, and the pioneer was 550 or so. Thanks for the advice tho.

The 7998 deck is great, I've been running it for about 3 months now and it's works great.

My first aftermarket deck was a sony is it was a P.O.S. After that I went Alpine and never turned back. I've had 6 different Alpine decks and loved them all.

I like the 7998 due to the big faceplace that hide back in the dash, the AUX input available for any Alpine was a must so that I can hookup my iPod. I don't like using internal amps in the deck so again this deck was a perfect solution for me. MP3 CD work great too. built in eq is not as great as an external one would be, but that's typical of any built in eq.

I have nothing bad to say about pioneer, but I think they are in different classes. Alpine is just plain better in my opinion.

Guys, i just wanted to thank you all for the recommendations, but i went with the pioneer DEH940MP, because it had more of what i think i wanted, if i don't like it, i can always return it tho. I also got the PC link kit, so i can put my own pictures and Moives on the deck, which was pretty impressive. And i really loved the 6volt preouts and 2 year warrenty from the premier line. Ill let you guys know how it is when it gets here later this week.

Yea, i love this pc kit too, they gave it to me almost 60 percent off. I love putting new stuff on there. I put a movie of my little brother pitching on the mound at yankee stadium on there. Its so cool. I am very happy with my choice. The only reason i wanted the alpine was the cell phone feature, but it didn't even work with my service.
