moonsoon = awsome

well, i JUST got my 2004...and my friend has a 2002..and one thing he always did with his is he would blast his stereo. i would always try to do that in a 2001 accord coupe, and it would not even compare to his...now when all my friends are parked at some place, i always have them saying my **** is loud!

BTW- why would u guys even consider changing to an aftermarket stereo!?! i dunno...i guess after market systems have more of a "thud" base haha...but the monsoon offers a crisp loud sound...i love it..

Yeah, it owns my step moms '03 Navigator in loudness. The Navigator has a subwoofer and has more bass and thump on lower volumes, but turn it up and it just deteriorates. There is some kind of frequency adjustment that occurs when you raise the volume. The midrange gets boosted, the bass drops some and it's not loud at all. Awful.

The monsoon, on the other hand, does a better job of handling the volume. I love how loud it goes and how much bass it pumps. It gives good highs too. Clear sound. But the Navigator definately pounds when the volume doesn't reach the adjustment point.

Fords Mach system blows away Monsoon...still both are stock systems and no stock system sounds better than aftermarket. Maybe if they made the stock head unit with 3 pre-outs, move bells and whistles, and better signal to noise ratio I'd consider leaving it in, just doesnt compare to the features of an aftermarket deck.

You can always tweak a Monsoon. I'm at 500 watts w/ my Monsoon (Added RF amps, subs, woofers & tweeters) I had all 3 of my old school punch 150's in there hooked to the Monsoon & just had too much trouble getting enough juice/ I didn't wanna put another battery in there so I went down to one. So I went from 1,200 watts back down to 500. It was a monster, no doubt there! Proof that the Monsoon can sound just as good as most aftermarket systems if you wanna throw the same amount of cash at it.

Well, I wired up an RF amp & subs. replaced the rear tweets w/ RF's & put a RF fanatic Q componenet set up front. You can only do this w/ the Monsoon amp if you use a transformer. (The stock woofers up front draw 2 ohm) I wired my RF tweets (4ohm) up directly to the Monsoon which draws 6 0hm w/ the stock tweets. By wireing up my RF's 2 4 ohm it draws more power to them. The nice thing about my RF amp is it has remote bass control, I set the Monsoon's bass at 2, leaveing it to concentrate it's power to the midrange & high scale. I use the variable crossover (bass control knob) on my RF amp to adjust my bass. By doing it this way the Monsoon really screams out the higher range & the RF amp pumps only the bass.

Keep in mind: the Monsoon speakers are as follows: rear woofers- 2 ohm rear tweets - 4 ohm front woofers - 2 ohm & front tweets - 6 ohm.

I am the only one I know of that has tweaked a Monsoon to this extent, or atleast on this site. I'm sure there's more out there but I havn't heard from anyone else. If there are anymore I'd like to hear what they've done. I've gotta get a diagram around to simplify what I've done as many people have asked how I've done it all, I just havn't gotten around to it.

That's not tweaking the Monsoon - that's replacing half of it!!

For a stock system, it sounds very good, the only ones beter are the high end "Nakamichi" and "Mark Levinson" systems found in some other cars. Still, it's a long way from where it could be.

I would recomend leaving teh Monsoon as is, tapping the rear "woofer" wires to run signal to a proper sub amp, and adding a single good quality 10 or 12 inch sub. Give the system the lows it lacks, but keep it simple. Otherwise, I say rip the whole mess out and do it right!!

Yeah, the Monsoon is missing the deep bass. Unless you pop the trunk, then it reaches some low notes but loses the higher bass notes.

I will give credit where credit is due, the Monsoon system is VERY impressive for a stock system! I changed mine out, however, because I needed auxiluary input on the head unit and didn't want to go cassette adapter or FM modulator route. I wanted direct RCA input.
