Turn signal clicking sound...?

Okay, I imagine it's just the unit gone bad, but all the sudden when I started my car today the car is making a clicking sound from the middle of the dash. It's definitely related to the turn signal. I *think* the clicking sound unit thingy is going bad. It will just randomly click like I have my turn signal on. Only difference is it will go fast and slow and stop all randomly - sortta like moris code. It's really wierd.

I was just curious if anyone has had this type of issue? Also if anyone knew if the Extended warranty would cover this. Or if there's any way for me to fix it myself.

It has not effected my turn signals, they work perfectly fine (infact it doesn't do the clicking randomly thing while the turn signals are on).

I'll probably just make an appointment for it and have the mechanics look at it.

Any info is appreciated!

-Dan

If you have a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty, then it should be covered. I'm 95% positive that it is your turn signal/wiper switch. The part is $78 (Shipped) from GMpartsdirect.

like does it make like a weird type of noise. its hard to describe. like when i hit the turn signal it will give a high pitched sound i think. sometimes it does it real quick and sometimes it does it for like a full second. can anyone describe the sound, cause if its the same sound thats like mine when i hit the turn signal, then i will have to buy that part.

I've had the same problem for a while and I have surmized that the problem exists in the HAZARD modual. I beleve you can find the part number in the parts thread, I remember requesting it a while back.

Happened to me too. And I have a 2002. Can you believe it? It was the turn signal/wiper column. Had to be replaced. Under warranty.

Mine just started acting up again (I already had it replaced at 25,000 miles). Unfortunately I have 73,000 now and no warranty. Just ordered the part, checked the Haynes manual and it seems like cake to install.

I had the same problem. Very annoying fast ticking just as I'm driving on the highway. I found this thread on GAOC:

http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/sh...ight=tick+tick

Took it to the dealership, told them specifically I didn't think it was the hazard switch and that's what they replaced anyway. About 80 miles and $136 later, on my way home, it just started up again. Gonna try to clean the connector and see if that works. Dealership did refund my money in full.

Hey guys, do you know what the name of the interface is on the head of the screw? I've gone through every tool in my inventory and I can't find a match to remove the bottom panel of the steering column.

Yeah, it's the star looking thing and I have some smaller tools that look like they'd do the job if they were about 4x as large... It's vaguely hexagonal (maybe octogonal) and has little catch lines drilled outwards..

Edit -> Yep! Found a set that fits.. I thought torque was a measure of force, applicable in a wrench with a gauge, not additionally a type of bit.

Further edit -> I managed to strip one of the screws in the process of finding out what it was -- but it was ok due to the redundant nature. For anyone trying this solution, the sizes are:

1/4 inch torque head or if it's stripped
9/32 inch Socket

personally i think losing the blinkers to freak your passengers out with a high pitched "EEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" noise from time to time is a good trade off...

nothing better then hitting the blinker and it starts making the noise and i say "OH **** I CANT STEER" ...freaks people out

I had the same problem about a year ago. I initially thought it was the hazard switch on the dash, so I bought a new, walked outside the dealer and put it on, and still did the same thing. It was in the steering column, the box that has both the wiper and the turn signal handles on it. I fixed it though, all I did was take the assembly out (it's easy and one whole piece), unscrew the screws and kinda open it, I didn't open it all the way cause I looked inside and saw some springs in there, didn't want them flying around if I opened all the way. So I just opened enough to clean the contacts inside. All the black stuff on the copper contacts should not be there. It's that stuff that forms a bridge between the contacts causes it to click sometimes. I cleaned it all up with a napkin and connected back, and I haven't had that problem since. Don't know if it;s the same for everyone, but it worked for me. Good too, cause that clicking was driving me crazy.

Not sure about your problem, but my left blinker goes about 10x as fast as my right. And no guys it's not a light. All lights working fine. Wait i know, GA's = P.O.S.

Same problem I had. Took the unit apart, cleaned up the old grease. Put a little new grease in it, put it back together and has worked great. Car was 18 months old when it started, and now it's been 3 years with no problems. I guess the grease they used inside the thing was a bad choice when it comes to combo switches.

i just had mine fixed. It ended up being the " Multi Function switch in your steering column. I also had the hazard switch replaced due to a recall from the dealer, but that was a totally different problem. So if your turn signal flasher is clicking its the Multi Function switch. Hope this helps
