Engine Degreasers >>>

I'm thinking about cleaning the engine on my 02 GAGT. I currently have 19k miles, and it's starting to get pretty dirty down there. My question is, what is the best degreaser to use? Also, how do I do this? Can I just spray the degreaser in the engine bay, then take a power washer and spray it down? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Also, how does detail places get everyting so shinny in there? Im thinkin they use armoral, but how do they spray it on there?

Thanks,
Jeff

Simple Green... and normal hose .. does the trick

PS.. Avoid getting the alty and coil packs wet

for the shine.. just spray a crap load of armour all when dry and done.

Use simple green, let it set for about 10 minutes and scrub the really dirty places, then use your garden hose with not much presssure and rinse it off. Keep in mind to stay away from your alternator, plug wires, electronics as much as possible, those things dont like to swim . Then for the shine, armor all works, spray it on a towel and wipe it on and let it dry, just keep it away from your acc belt. They actually make engine detailing spray that you can buy at autozone, etc. Might take a look.

It works.. but it smells aweful when spraying it. I had a can... used it for 30 sec and threw it away. Also you can't control the spray can nozzle which was another thing I didn't like bout it.

PS.... MAKE sure the engine is cold when doing the cleaning.

Go to Sears and get their portable steam cleaner. $99 and it does a hell of a job!

You can search for it on their website.

There is a small $59 one on their website. Is this the one that you were talking about? http://www.searshomecenter.com/homec...eaner&partner=

Try...

http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summ...id=00809963000

It's now selling for $79 USD and also comes with extensions and a high pressure nozzle.

It's a steal at that price!

i used stuff call CD2... it work wonders!!!

i've clean a few other engine bays with the cheap stuff you can get at autozone or where ever, and it works good to, just have to spend a little time and elbow grease to fully clean it

Up north I use the Canadian Tire brand (Mastercraft) orange-scented engine degreaser. Works wonder and doesn't smell as foul as some other degreasers. Very easy to use too.

I just use simple green or 409 and a low pressure hose. As said before, make sure the engine is off and cool and make sure that you rinse any cleaner that gets on your exterior paint off ASAP cause degreaser strips wax. Follow all this up with some armor all (or any equivelent) on all the plastic/rubber parts with a rag. I like to cover up the alternator with a plastic bag, but I've never had any trouble with anything getting wet and not working afterwards.

I use the generic stuff and just spray away. I get everything wet. It dont seem to matter much.

Spray Simple Green, let sit for 5 min, hose off, spray Amor-All on all rubber peices, and turn on car to burn off water. All done, nice and shiny!

Actaully i have my engine bay so clean now that all i have to do is take a towel to it once in awhile. Check out my cardomain and see the difference from when i bought it then when i got my hands in there and went to work on it. Big difference.
