Question Basslink Hookup to Monsoon?

I just got my basslink today. I know that this isn't the best subwoofer, but I've heard good things about it and I want my trunk space. In the future, I may upgrade to something better.

Anyway, I want to know if I can tap the power wire the monsoon amp uses? I don't want to have to run a wire all the way to the battery if I don't need to. Thanx.

First off, don't be so down on your purchase. I have one of these as well, and let me tell you, it gets the job done well. I ran the power to the battery, and I would do the same. Just a clean connection and not that hard to do. Enjoy the Basslink!

Your Basslink will sound better with an 10-8 gauge wire (Less people will laugh at you) go to Wal-Mart buy the 8ga wiring kit for like $20 and learn what the inside of your car looks like. or you could pay Circut City $100 to do it.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use the monsoon wire? All I would probably need to do is change the fuse to a higher number to accomadate the added load. Right???

From what I can see from the Monsoon pin out chart:

E11 ORN Battery Positive Voltage
E11 ORN Battery Positive Voltage

This would mean that the monsoon amp is getting it's power from the battery? If not, how the hell do I run the power wire to the battery? What do I need to take apart?

yes it is possible however it would be better to use a larger wire like an 10 or 8 guage wire. If you pick up a wiring kit at walmart (they have some inexpensive ones) you just run the wire from battery to the location that the basslink will be at. The hardest part will be finding a gromet to fit the wire through.
Take off the rocker pannel (the plastic door jamb thingy) and pull back the carpet you should see a rubber boot for the steering wheel and just to the left of it you will see a gromet (another rubber Boot) with some wires already coming out of it.
Poke a small hole in the grommet with say a coat hanger feed the coat hanger through the grommet and into the engine bay.
Attatch the wire to the Coat hanger and pull the wire through the grommet.
Pull enough through so that the other end of the wire has a little slack to the pos battery terminal.
OK I Don't know if you have a 2 door or 4 door but basically you want to pull off the plastic pannels so that you can run the wire in the wire trough. You will see the wire trough it has a large bundle of wires that lead to the back of the car. follow those wires until you get to the back seat.
once you get to the back seat you can remove the bottom cusion by pulling up on it. (you may have to use a little force) run the power wire under the back seat cushion and under the rear seatbacks to the trunk.
Make sure that you have a fuse within 2 feet of the battery terminal on the positive wire. And make sure that fuse is as close as posible to the same ratting as the fuse(s) on the basslink.
As for the ground wire you don't want it to be more than 3 feet long and attatched to a large bolt or screw with a lot of contact with the body of the car.
Phew That is all I can think of but I probably missed something.

I'll see what I can do tomorrow. I'll get that wiring kit and go from there. This sounds more complicated than I thought it have would be.

Do I have to disconnect the battery? Should I?

Thanks Matt and everyone else for the info you have given me.

Yeah you defenitely want to disconnect the battery. It's really fairly logical once you get into it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it you could have CC or BB or another instal place do it.

Don't ever, ever, ever do that.. the whole point of a fuse is to limit current to what the wire can handle.. if you put a larger fuse than you should, then poof.

Do what is suggested.

I think there is actually a thread about basslink install, iirc, peeps and sikmindz contributed to it. If you can't find it let me know.

Yeah, I saw the threads that peeps and sikmindz were a part of. I read it thoroughly. It doesn't provide what I am looking for but it did give me some helpful information.

Thanks for that little info, ice. Now it's starting to make some sense. I'm a noob at car audio installs. :/

Update: I got it hooked up. It's not completed, but I got to listen to it and hear what it can do. I can't say that i'm truely impressed. It has some thump, but just not enough. I set the bass to -2 and use the basslink to fill the bass. Now the highs are better. The sound is better. But I expected the basslink to hit some low notes. When the trunk is closed, this doesn't happen. When the trunk is open, then you hear the deep bass and it really shines.

It's too bad it can't hit those lows with the trunk closed. Cause the basslink sounds very much like the rear woofers when the bass is set to +6 when the trunk is closed. Except, the basslink is louder and goes just a little lower. But it's a nice addition. Provides the fill that is needed.

In the future, I think i'm gonna get some more thump.

I think you might not have tuned it right (directions in the manual) or maybe a connection isn't quite right. Ask some of the people at GAP who listened to my basslink. Trunk open or closed it was hitting pretty good......

Ditto that. I love my Basslink. Might want to try tuning it differently. On a better note- glad to hear that you got it in ok! Other peeps (read: me and THE peeps) forgot to put the fuse in the power wire and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't turn on! LoL

Thankfully, the kit that I bought has the fuse holder built into the line. All I had to do was pop in the fuse.

However, I can't say I got of that easy. I forgot to hook up the ground so I was wondering why it wouldn't turn on too. My friends mentioned maybe I need the remote connection then I realized and said "damn, I forgot to hook up the ground...that's why!"

HA!

Peeps, how did you hook yours up? Are you using the speaker level inputs connected to the pins on the monsoon, or did you use a line-out converter from the monsoon's speaker wires and connect it to the basslink's rca inputs? Mine is connected using speaker level.

Also, did you yank/cut the wires out of the monsoon harness and splice the wires with the basslink wires?

I don't have the Monsoon but I spliced my wires. Didn't have to use the line-out converter.
