Alpine or Pioneer?

Ok I have narrowed my choice of a new HU down to 2 (I hope).
The Alpine CDA-9811
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...9811&s=0&cc=01
and the Pioneer DEH-P750MP
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...P750&s=0&cc=01

Im leaning more towards the pioneer, because of the Display, and ive heard good things about pioneer. I haven't heard much about the Alpine, but it seems nice also, I just want to make sure I get the best HU for the money.

If any of you have either of these, or other MP3 decks in the same price that you think are better, tell me what you think, id really appreciate it, thanks.

Both are good HU's. The Pioneer has a little better eq, a better display, and the add ons (such as XM tuner or disc changer) are cheaper. The Alpine has a little better signal to noise ratio and Bass Engine Plus (if you can figure out how to use it).

Although I own the Alpine 9811 and I'm very pleased, I would almost have to recommend the Pioneer. Mainly because of that awesome display .

Yeah thats what i was thinkin, they both have their high and low points, but that display rules, you can even upload your own pictures to have in the background.

IMHO - once you get above around $300 bucks MSRP with Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood... all the head units are going to have pretty much the same features, get the one that looks cooler.

I have the Alpine and it is nice, but the Pioneer definetly has the better display.

I like the alpine display better but i like to keep things simple.

Both would be great units.

i'd go with the pioneer...i have the premier 740mp w/ the mp3 player and its easy to navigate, has cool screensavers, and its powerful...i'm waitin to get a 750 premier b/c you can burn images on a CD then upload them to the reciever on a CD-R and put the image as a screensaver for it

also, don't get it from crutchfield that price it outrageous

OMG, I found an even better one, the JVC KD-LH3150, you can upload your own images and movies, and change the color of the display to 1700 different colors!

Ive got a general philosophy that I try to follow. If you make it do one thing it will do it well. Take for example the swiss Army knife it sucks as a knife it suks as a screw driver, fish descaler, magnifing glass, Awl and does OK as a bottle opener. If you spend more time designing the way the display looks on your radio than you do on how well it works then you have made a swiss army knife not great at anything but good at many things.

good theory, but not correct in this case, the sound frequency responce/ features just get better along with the display

Pionner or Alpine definitely gets my vote over any JVC head unit.... jvc belongs in the house

Why do you say that? Actually the JVC has better frequency responce than the pioneer, plus it matches our interior. Also, the only thing better about the pioneer is the tuner is slightly better.

Maybe ur right, actaully i like the way that the alpine looks, but im afraid that it wont display mp3 song names fast enough with that kind of display, does anyone that has it want to tell me if im right or not?

i have the 7894.... it scrolls the name, don't look at it too much since i usually know what the song is since i put it on there.

that unit probably scrolls the name as well.

any of those units (including the JVC) will probably sound close enough to each other that you won't be able to tell the difference. More time should be spent on speakers, speaker placement, sound deadening, and amplifiers if you want a good sounding stereo.

if you get it all figured out right, you probably won't even need to use the built-in EQ settings at all, they just add more NOISE!

which brings me to one other feature I like on the alpine.. defeat. You turn the defeat on and it bypasses all eq settings and just puts out a nice flat signal. The other ones might have this feature as well but i am not sure.
