Question Turbo, now what?

I am sick of hearing about the 'prototypes'. I am tired of waiting for some other company to come out with a turbo kit. I am doing this to my car and I will stop at nothing to get it done. I am going to run 6-8 psi. I am using stock exhaust manifolds (3100 log style for the rear). I have no concern for the tranny... if it goes, it goes.

I have just purchased the following:

- T3 Turbo
- HKS BOV
- FMIC
- Crossover with T3 Flange
- Downpipe
- Oil Cooler

Aside from IC/Intake piping (the Doctor will be doing this), what do I need? (aside from the 3100 rear manifold, too)

Fuel
Source - Is the stock pump okay?
Injectors - Are the 4.2's necessary?
AFPR - Is this all I need?
FMU - ANYTHING? who, what, where?

Computer
Reprogram - Does it have to be done to make the car at least driveable until I can arrange a custom tune?

Ignition
Spark Plugs - TR6's maybe?

I welcome ALL constructive replies.

If you keep the T3 compressor and run 6psi, a Vortech FMU should work just fine! You'd need to call Vortech for the correct ratio, but that should work until you can get a reprogram. For plugs, I'd go with Bosch +2's ( avoid electrode-type plugs) that are a 1 or 2 ranges colder. Stock pump is fine. Remember that the EM S/C run 6 psi on stock fuel system (w/RRFPR - like Vortech) with no probs. You would just be using exhaust to spin the compressor instead of the serpentine belt.

Good Luck!

Geez man, you in an aweful yank, you make it sound like its easy. I finally have mine almost complete. I don't know if you will agree with the ignition and fuel timing, but how long do you think my car has been worked on?

Just about 2 months. Longer than I thought it would take but, I PROMISE that is near completion. All they have to do is pipe for the IC and send it off to get coated. I'm guessing that will be done totally in 2-3 weeks. ALL of the exhaust side of the kit is done. To include downpipe, headers, flanges, etc

But I still like the MeOH/H2O solution personally. I know that isn't for everyone, but you'll be able to push plenty of boost.

I really think you should either contact me or HPP directly. If nothing else they might cut you a deal on the exhaust side.

all you should need is a FMU and/or boost retard timing system. Other then that, your car should be fine....but mine is also ODB-I and thats what I am going by.

Okay, so far:

- New Plugs
- FMU

Where should I be looking for an FMU? Vortech is good?

Basically for the simplicity of the design. I am following Craig's idea, which is outlined here: http://www.jeepnuts.com/12sGASE/turbo.htm#Exhaust

FMU - 8:1 is the recommendation I have so far.

R42LTS plugs (ac delco non platinums, 2 heat ranges colder than stock) i would gap them at about 40 to be safe

i would reccomend the Vortec FMU with 8:1 ratio

good luck kyle

What does the SC kit come with ratio wise. And I would ge the 4.2L Injectors since the're a perfect fit.
And how did you purschase a downpipe?

Thanks Kalvin!

Doug, I bought Kalvin's setup. Do you really think I will need the 4.2 injectors? I'm going to put it on at first without them anyway (won't be hard to add them later) just to see where I'm at.

With the FMU, the 4.2L injectors aren't doing that much. That is the FMU's job ... Yes, they'll let more fuel in than our injectors, but again ... that's the FMU's job! And if the ratio of rise/boost is chosen correctly, stock injectors will work just fine.

If you don't plan on boosting over 10psi stock injectors should be fine. A rising rate FMU from vortech would be a very good way to go, but you'll have to do a little modification to the fuel rail and return line in order to use it. A good performance shop should be able to help you out with that. Good luck.
