GPS/DVD Navigation from Rendezvous

Hey guys, I have the oppurtunity to buy a Navigation system out of a Buick Rendezvous for a fairly good price. I was wondering if you guys would think it would be just a simply plug in or what. I'm not really concerned with the GPS navigation that much, just the cd player/dvd aspect. Could you guys list any problems I might encounter. Thanks a bunch.

From what I can tell, it looks like the dimensions are the same. There is no doubt that it uses databus, I just don't know if it uses a different stlye connector. Does the Rendevous have monsoon?

I wanted to do this with my grand am. I was looking at the Navigation unit for the Vibe. The high $1000 price tag quickly turned my head.

Where are you getting this oppurtunity from???

Yeah, the dimensions are the same as far as I know. The Rendezvous does not have monsoon, I forget what it is called but I do know there is an amp going to them. My friends dad owns a salvage yard, where most of the cars are repairable, this redezvous is totaled and they are just parting it out.

Well, what you need to find out is the style connector it is using. If it's the same style, your good to go. If you have XM, you will enjoy the screen since everything shows up on it. Station ID, song info, artist info, album info, etc. all show up at the same time.

If you do get it, could you tell me the Part #?

Sure thing, I do have XM, however I'm still on my first free 3 months of service. I assume I would have to call and give them a new Radio ID #? Vintalage, thanks for all your help and input.

Most likely, you will have to. The XM digital reciever is programmed for the radio you have now.

Hey one more quick question...Do you think this thing has a brain like an aftermarket unit? Or is it all built in to the head unit? Thanks.

Brain like an aftermarket unit??? Do you mean can it control everything?

I have the link to the online manual. Unfortunately, my house has no power and my work computer doesn't have it.

Power's back.

Ok, the link to all manuals is:

http://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2content/manual/US/en/

This is the mygmlink.com site. It bypasses all the crap and gives you access to every manual.

The link to the DVD Navigation manual is:

http://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2conte...rendez_nav.pdf

You have to have Adobe Acrobat to read these. They are in PDF format. Let me know if the links worked.

Thanks for the part #.

Both manuals work
One of my friends is pretty heavy into electronics and thinks that if I take this thing apart and figure out something with some chip (I forget all his technical lingo.) I can then search online for the chip and figure out what pins and how many volts to apply to them and it should clear the theftlock, however I think I will try dealer first. Are they going to give me a bunch of trouble or just reset it for a fee?

They will probably just reset it for a fee. That's all.

Oh, and knowing them, they will charge a rediculous price. I know they do when reprogramming the keyfobs.

Ok, there was a guy over on GM Forum's that has a 2003 CTS that had standard CD player and wanted to replace with 6 disc/Navigation unit. I guess he went to 13 dealers and none of them would do it. He did get it unlocked so I sent him an email to see how. I also think I need some sort of GPS antenna for the navigation to work according to him. Thanks for everyone's help.

Most likely, yes. I believe the antenna is usually hidden within the dash. Not exactly sure where.

Well, here we go...I went to the dealership today. They had no idea how to reset this so I told them that the dealership next door told me they used the Tech 2 tool. They fooled around with it for awhile and nothing. Every time he went into radio setup, it would just time out. Finally, he called technical support, and the guy told him that it shouldn't even work in my car. I don't know if there is anything else to do buy im not going to give up just yet. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
