Replacing flasher for normal speed blinkers w/ LED's

Got all my LED bulbs in my tails up and working just fine(YES they all work when normal and braking) And I got the variable load equalizing flasher doohicky, , but i have no idea where the original flasher unit thing is to replace it with the new one. I know its not in the fuse box and my dad said it was probably under the dash somewhere but all i could see was a bunch of black plastic so what do i do now????

don't know what ur talking about, but if you mean the blinker flasher thingie, thats located right behind the hazard button, its part of the buttom assembly

nah, its different, im guessing your saying that since thats where the clicking noise comes from but this piece is a 3/4" tall by 3/4" wide cylinder thing with 2 perpendicular plugs

u shoudn't need to replace the flasher relay. The load equalizer does it job for the flasher relay to blink normal. I too have LED in my turnsignals.. and solved the fast blinking with the load equalizers only.

where do you wire these load equalizers in anyways?

Nope thats all you really need. Unless you really want to replace the flasher relay to not use the load equalizers .. be my guest.. but that require you removing/modifing the hazard switch.

**** IT will vary with the brand of LED bulb and how its wired***

I have the Jamstrait hyper bright orange LED turn signals.. for me; you only need need the load equalizer for the big 3157 bulb. I got mine load equalizer really homemade with radioshack resistor part. I used a multimeter and measured the original dual filament bulb. The Bright part the one that lights up normal aka the one that is bright while the parking lights are on measured out to be 6.??? ohms. And the the 2nd small inner filament measured to like 2.?? ohms (which is the 2nd pin if ya ever looked or modified an led bulb).

therefore the led already had a small resistor in the where the small filament goes and I only need one for each side (2 total) of a 6 ohm resistor. There are 3 signal wires; 1 brown which is the parking light (one that only lights up dim at light); 2nd is blue which lights up the large bright filament; and 3 black is ground.

Since I only needed a 6ohm resistor for the large filament. A resistor has 2 ends to it. It doesn't matter which end is the correct connection (meaning no wrong way to hook up the resistor) I got an 8 ohm resistor (like 4 bucks) from radioshack since they don't have a 6ohm but had an 8ohm which works as well. I used butt connectors and crimped one on each end of the resistor wires since it looks like this ---[ ]--- on the other end of the butt connector you need to find speaker wire or some wire to use to splice in to the turn signal one.

One end of the wire spliced in to the blue wire and the other end connected to the black ground wire; therefore, creating an ohm load (resistance) as a normal filament bulb.

OR you can buy already made load equalizer with a 6 or 3 ohm load level for like 20 bucks a pair while you can do it yourself for under 5 bucks.

Now I know you're prolly like man I wrote a novel, but it quite easy if ya know the car's wiring. hehehehe thats what i'm studing Electrical Engineer. <--- Calculus is a killer though.

so you need a 6 ohm resistor for each 3157 bulb? can u draw a picture in paint and show me where to put the resistor?

i got some jamstraights led coming for my front end, and i don't want to but stupid load equlizers..they hella expensive. i knew it was just a capasitor, i just want to know how to wire them in

hehe its great art work

This is for the 3157 bulb. The bulb means wires going to the bulb and car meaning the wiring going towards the car. R is resistor.

Is there any particular other numbers to look for on the load resistor? wattage or anything like this? How big is it? Just want to get an idea of what I'm looking for before I go to Ratshack. I know some resistors I bought from RS were like 1/2 watt stuff but wattage do these need to be?

I got 6.8 ohm 10 watt ceramic resistors and they work very well. I tried a 1/4 watt resistor too and it wasn't a high enough wattage.

I ordered some load resistors and I'm curious where you install them... If I install them right behind the 3157 bulb will it still blink correctly if I change out the corner 194 amber bulb to a LED type? Or should I install the load resistor behind the blinker relay inside the car so I can change the tail blinkers to LED too at a later time?

Just trying to get an idea on where to install it... I've already got the bulbs for the front, 4 194's and 2 3157's. Just waiting for the resistors to come in.
