Redlining?

I was rolling around 35 MPH when I saw my friend next to me. I just put in N and revved next to him just for ****. The needle went up to 6K RPM. Do we have a rev limiter? I freaked out because I thought I was gonna blow something.

I let off gas pedal when I do this. And I shift back to D only after the needle drops down to idel RPM(less than 1K). How can this be bad?

He is absoulutely positively right! Notice that if you are at a red light, and you shift into neutral......when you rev up ur engine, and u shift into drive (while you are still holding down the gas pedal) (and roll down ur window to hear this ) listen to ur exhaust. It will sound really low. THIS IS BECAUSE your RPM's are dropping down to below 1000 RPMS, thus protecting the engine AND transmission from harming itself.

Our engine does have a rev limitor. Its around 4500 RPMS (as stated above) notice that when your car is in park, and u press the accelerator pedal, one the needle reaches around 4000-4500 RPMS, they will drop and go up again. So if you think you are having engine problems because ur car revs up and down when it gets to 4500 RPM's....nothing is wrong, the car is just protecting itself.

Take my advice though, be careful with what you do to your car. Dont be stupid and fu** it up. I've learned the hard way.....

Yup... Our cars come stock with a little bit of idiot insurance.
From what I've been told, the feature is there to prevent neutral drops. Our trannys are compact and don't react well to being beaten on.

Wow, yours goes to 6100?? mine only goes to 5800, whether in neutral when driving, or when i keep it in first to see how high it runs...

Along with that, mine cuts at 4000 in neutral...

Anyways, I know these numbers make no difference to me, just felt like pointing out that my car is different.. for some reason..

Ahhh, the joys of that really painfull grind sound when the other idiots in their little ricers with automatic trannies drop full throttle into drive...

Valve float is when the engine is revving too fast for the valve springs to close the valves. They just stay open, hence the term "float". It's not so good for your engine since both valves are pretty much open the whole time.

Stronger springs will fix the problem. So will taking you foot off the gas.
